Mr. A.K. Bhartia, a veteran in the automobile spare parts trade for 30 years, was unanimously elected President of the Federation of All India Spare Parts Dealers Association (FAIASPDA) at its 15th annual general body meeting held at Mahabalipuram near Chennai on September 8.
The Federation, registered in January 1962, has been offering liaison between the automobile motor spare parts dealers and various Government agencies. It will be celebrating its Golden Jubilee shortly.
Addressing the annual session, Mr. Bhartia observed that the Stds. Of Weights & Measures (PC Rules 1977) has proved a major threat to the auto spares trade & industry. Though FAIASPDA has been making sustained efforts to get exemption from it, nothing gainful has been achieved so far.
He said that GST will be introduced soon, replacing the various taxes at the State and Central levels. This requires amendments/abolition of several enactments through legislation. The entire process has to be handled in a systematic manner. However, till date neither a White Paper nor the bare essentials of the Act have been made public. As a result, the trade and industry are unable to comprehend the dimensions of the proposed Act so that they could make some suggestions for the successful implementation of the new tax system, he added.
