At this year’s IAA show at Hannover, the visitors get to learn about the many benefits of Allison transmissions at the company’s two-story booth (FG P90 and FG P86).
Allison Transmission is the world’s largest manufacturer of fully automatic transmissions for medium- and heavy-duty commercial vehicles and is a leader in hybrid-propulsion systems for city buses. Its transmissions are used in a variety of commercial vehicle applications including refuse, construction, fire, distribution, bus, motorhomes, defense and energy.
With patented Continuous Power Technology™, Allison transmissions use a torque converter to deliver smooth, seamless, full-power shifts, and superior acceleration. Each shift is made automatically when appropriate, allowing drivers to precisely manage performance and exercise superior vehicle control. Unlike a manual or automated manual transmission (AMT) that loses power with every shift, Allison Automatics eliminate power interrupts for greater productivity – even with a smaller engine.
When it comes to fuel economy, Allison’s newest products include FuelSense® and xFE technologies. FuelSense is the next generation in fuel-savings technology which utilizes a unique set of software and electronic controls to improve fuel economy up to 20 percent.
For city and transit buses, xFE technology can improve fuel economy up to 7 percent. With xFE, the transmission is designed specifically for the constant shifting and lower average speeds for these duty cycles. This allows buses to run longer where they are most efficient.
