At Busworld Kortrijk, Allison Transmission showcased its advanced transmission and hybrid technology for buses and coaches, as well as its new and highly advanced 5th Generation transmission control system (5th GEN). Visitors to the Allison stand had the
opportunity to view three transmission models, including the popular T325R used in 12-metre city buses, the Allison 2000 Series, which is common in midi-buses and coaches with engines of up to 172 kW and 705 Nm, and the H 50 EP, Allison’s two-mode parallel hybrid system suitable for full-sized and artic buses up to 246 kW and 1424 Nm. Allison experts were available to discuss why more OEMs and customers worldwide are choosing the company transmissions for buses and coaches of all sizes.
Allison also displayed the individual components comprising the new 5th GEN controls, which can significantly improve fuel economy and comfort. Designed for easy integration with Euro-6 engines and the new generation of global vehicle electrical-electronic architectures, 5th GEN incorporates major advancements and features that deliver flexible and optimal shift strategies for even greater efficiency.
Embedded in the 5th GEN control module is a new inclinometer. Its precision and responsiveness improve performance with faster, more accurate shift schedules resulting in further reductions in fuel consumption. This new generation of electronic controls also provides two additional levels of acceleration rate management, offering an even greater ability to improve fuel economy by controlling engine fuelling, while moderating aggressive driving practices.
Allison transmissions were also displayed within buses of Turkish manufacturers Temsa Global and Otokar. Temsa exhibited its new Euro6 MD9 range of buses equipped with Allison. T280R and T325R Torqmatic Series transmissions. It showed the MD9C coach and inter-city bus, the MDLE low-entry bus and the LD intercity model. The versatile T325R transmission is designed for full-sized city and inter-city buses, as well as coaches with engines of up to 1200 Nm. Otokar plans to show the all-new Navigo-U Euro-6 midi-bus equipped with an Allison 2100 model.
Proven hybrid technology
Allison Transmission is a leader in commercial vehicle hybrid systems. Over 5,600 city buses equipped with the Allison H 40/50 EP 
hybrid systems are operating in 230 cities worldwide. More than 150 of these buses have been operating reliably in Europe since 2006, delivering fuel savings of up to 25 per cent.
Hannover’s transport authority, the üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG, took delivery of its third batch of Solaris Urbino 18-
metre articulated buses equipped with the Allison H 50 EP hybrid system. Since the first bus was placed in service in 2008, üstra has acquired a total of 11 hybrid Urbinos, which transport passengers in the capital of Lower Saxony. Allison hybrid systems have proven to be both environmentally friendly and economical, while providing comfort for drivers and passengers alike.
