Allison Transmission was truly overwhelmed with the strong presence of leading bus and chassis manufacturers exhibiting new products at the expo. The company is leveraging all available opportunities to popularize its wide range fully-automatic transmissions among the bus makers in the Indian market.
“This is very exciting, as there is a good presence of bus OEMs at Prawaas this year. We would like to showcase our latest technologies and strong commitment to work with them in the domestic market”, said Mr. Anshul Gupta, Director – Commercial, Allison Transmission India. In addition, this platform gives us immense chance to reach out to bus fleet operators, who are the end users of our products, he added.
In fact, the company is working with lot of private fleet operators with the retro-fitment of Allison fully-automatic transmission in their existing buses, so as to offer them the first-hand taste of the technology. Clarified Mr. Gupta: “Retro-fitment of our gearboxes is only for demonstration of technology and not our business model. Our approach is certainly oriented towards OEMs. But we would like to create market demand for our technologies organically, arising from the end users”.
Since bus fleets have a greater say at the OEM level in influencing transmission and related technologies options, Allison Transmission wants the private bus fleets to sway the OEMs to offer buses fitted with Allison fully-automatic gearboxes, thereby generating a demand push that the latter can act on. The Director said that with the upcoming era of BS-VI, there appears a new lease of opportunity for the company in promoting its automatic transmission technologies.
Allison Transmission also offered a unique ride and drive facility at the expo, with a bus powered by its fully-automatic transmission for the audience to experience the technology. “We gained a lot of mileage from our last participation at Prawaas in 2017, we are hoping to replicate the success in this edition as well”, Mr. Gupta noted.
