Tata Motors has, in a press release, issued by it, announced the untimely and tragic demise of its Managing Director, Karl Slym, in Bangkok on January 26. He was in Bangkok to attend a meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Thailand Ltd.
Karl Slym joined Tata Motors in October 2012 and was providing leadership to the company through a challenging market environment. “The company shares in the grief of Karl Slym’s wife and family at their irreparable loss”, the release adds.
The company Chairman, Mr. Cyrus Mistry, in his message, said: “I am deeply saddened to inform you about the untimely and tragic demise of our company’s Managing Director, Karl Slym. Karl was visiting Bangkok for a meeting of the Board of Directors of Tata Motors Thailand Ltd., and passed away early morning on Sunday. Karl was a valued colleague who was providing strong leadership for Tata Motors at a challenging time for the Indian auto industry. In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl’s wife and family.”
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) was deeply grieved to hear about the untimely and sudden passing away of Karl Slym. He was always a staunch supporter of SIAM and had earlier served as the Chairman of the SIAM Passenger Car Council. He had also served on the SIAM Executive Committee since 2007 as an elected member.
“We have lost a well-wisher in Karl at a time when the company as well as the industry most needed his global expertise, leadership and guidance,” said Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, SIAM President.
Expressing grief at the sad demise of Karl Slym, Mr. Harish Lakshman, President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), said: “It is indeed very unfortunate that the automotive industry has today lost a distinguished leader. His loss comes at a juncture when the industry needed him the most. A committed and true friend of the supplier community, he will be greatly missed. In this hour of grief, our thoughts are with Karl’s wife and family.”
