BigBasket uses AssetTrackr tracking solution to optimize ‘on-time’ delivery

BigBasket.com is India’s largest online food and grocery store that provides a rich online shopping experience with over 10,000 BigBasket-PramodJajoo-picproducts and over 1,000 brands. It offers doorstep delivery services in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai city limits by directly sourcing products from large farms and aggregators.

BigBasket’s business model relies on on-time delivery of goods, and in order to manage the operations smoothly and efficiently, it uses the hub-and-spoke mode of distribution. Here wholesalers deliver goods to BigBasket’s warehouses. Branded delivery vans then deliver these goods to the consumers. Perishables are only warehoused for a matter of hours, and in some cases it’s 24 hours from farm to fridge. It handles 1,500 plus orders a day in Bangalore and 700 plus orders a day in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

The grocery store banks on technology-driven solutions to track everything from the time an order is placed to delivery. Earlier, during its ERP systems development, it partnered with AssetTrackr, a leading provider of fleet and asset management solutions. BigBasket uses AssetTrackr RestAPI interface to tightly integrate with the ERP system and handle all movement of trucks and delivery vehicles, notification to customers on estimated delivery times, etc.

Once an order is placed, the customer geo-code and delivery slot information are fed into the AssetTrackr system. AssetTrackr then creates a geo-zone (virtual zones on the map) around the delivery location and records the time of delivery. This data is used by BigBasket to improve its ‘on-time’ delivery and optimize the workforce.
