Black Diamond Motors forays into car / CV carrier segment

Black Diamond is an established brand since past 32 years, known for its iconic products such as earth-moving machinery spares, coal-crushing equipment, etc. Decades of excellence, effective synergies with the clients and the promoter’s visionary dream to venture into the automotive industry vertical facilitated the establishment of Black Diamond Motors Pvt. Ltd. (BDM) in 2006.

BDM’s core strength is clearly demonstrated by its ability to design and manufacture a comprehensive range of tippers, tip-trailers, bulk carriers and custom-built bodies to meet the customer-specific requirements.

In just six years, the company emerged one of the front-runners in the Indian trailer industry. Besides its success in the tip-trailer segment, it has made judicious investments to gain a considerable market share in the fast growing auto carrier segment (car/CV carrier segment).

Sustained growth perception and customer-centric approach enabled BDM to hit the top notch in designing and manufacturing innovative products. In addition, focusing on the right product mix has also reinforced its product capabilities to cater niche application segments.

Evolving market dynamics, volatile fuel prices, tighter budget constraints and diminishing profit margins in the auto carrier industry compel the logistics service providers to enhance their operational excellence while also lowering the total cost of ownership.

Such vital issues opened up new avenues of growth for the opportunity grabber, and BDM has leveraged this colossal business potential by aptly managing its business operations to focus on the truck/car carrier segment.

Its manufacturing plans have been strategically executed, and the company is confident of becoming India’s leading manufacturer of truck/car carriers.

In addition, BDM has further reinforced its manufacturing capabilities by expanding the capacity at the Bilaspur facility in Chhattisgarh. Moreover, the facility houses an immaculately tailored production line to provide adequate flexibility for optimizing and enhancing manufacturing operations, while also tackling the supply chain challenges.

“Having emerged as a market leader in the tipper and tip-trailer segment, BDM embraces its unique manufacturing capabilities and state-of-art R&D center to translate its innovative concepts to reality, thereby committed to serve diverse customer base”, says Mr. R.S. Bhatia, Director, Black Diamond Motors.

In-house design and the state-of-art engineering center enable the company to produce superior quality and cutting-edge car/truck carriers. BDM’s ability to adopt mass customization and frugal engineering concepts ensures timely product delivery at reduced cost.

The road ahead

BDM’s forward looking strategy and vendor-agnostic approach enables it to understand the client’s requirements and unmet needs. This enables the company to deliver an enhanced value proposition, which offers best-in-class and rugged auto carrier trucks most suited for Indian road conditions. In addition, BDM’s optimistic perspective of the auto carrier market growth potential is complemented by a strong research analysis conducted by RACE Innovations, an exclusive project engineering and business consulting firm.

Industry analysts estimates the truck/car carrier market to witness moderate growth of 6.9 per cent over the next six years (2012-2017). Currently there are less than 750 truck carriers in India and the number is expected to double within six-eight months. In fact truck sales clearly reflect the demand patterns for truck carriers, although the truck market is suffering a setback due to the industrial slowdown.

The Indian truck market is expected to regain its momentum by the first quarter of 2013. At the same time, the truck carrier segment is also projected to expand its market share.

Mr. Jacob Thomas, Director (Marketing), Black Diamond Motors, observes: “With more than 10 truck OEMs in the country, future market potential for truck carriers looks healthy. In case of a deadlock between truck OEMs and LSPs, or prolongation of gloomy economic climate might undermine the brighter prospects.”

The business consulting firm also expects Black Diamond to capture a considerable market share in the truck & car carrier segment. BDM, an iconic brand to reckon in the tip-trailer segment, is poised to further strengthen its synergies with OEMs and LSPs. Also, it is strategically located to cater to customers in the central and eastern region and is expected to gain a stronger foothold than the other players in the field.

“BDM’s comprehensive product line has consistently enhanced their clientele value proposition with their robust design and engineering, mass production capabilities, and value-added features in the past. The company will strive for excellence in terms of quality, innovation and commitment, which enable them to forge ahead in the competitive marketplace”, adds Mr. Bhatia.

At present, the road ahead for the truck/car carrier market is bullish indeed.
