BorgWarner Cooling Systems (India) Private Ltd., a subsidiary of BorgWarner Thermal Systems Inc., is located in Chennai where it has been producing viscous fan drives and polymer fans for the Indian commercial and light-duty vehicle segments since 2002. The company is working on introducing new products and technologies to be able to deliver better and more fuel efficient solutions for its customers.

Says Mr. G. Murali, Director and Plant Head, BorgWarner Cooling Systems (India) Private Ltd.: “BorgWarner’s strategic goal for the Indian market is to expand its product portfolio with innovative technologies engineered to help OEMs improve fuel economy and meet increasingly stringent emission requirements. We believe the speed of technology migration will become much faster as emissions regulations are implemented, especially Bharat IV and Bharat VI.”

BorgWarner has been delivering a new generation of electronically-controlled variable speed Visctronic fan drives to the Indian market and will start local production in early 2017. Featuring precise electronic control and BorgWarner’s proven viscous technology, Visctronic fan drives respond directly to engine cooling needs, resulting in more available horsepower, improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

In addition, BorgWarner is planning to introduce dual mode coolant pumps and controlled variable flow pumps to India. The innovative design allows OEMs to precisely control the impeller speed to produce the desired coolant flow rate. “We are currently working with several OEMs to understand their needs and develop these products for the Indian market”, adds Mr. Murali.

Looking ahead to 2020, BorgWarner plans to continue working closely with R&D and product development teams to develop fast-to-market solutions for India as well as export opportunities. With a focus on ‘Made in India’, its best-in-class manufacturing line provides localized production of key commodities with increasing vertical integration. Overall, BorgWarner is excited and geared up for the potential growth opportunities in the Indian market.
