Focus on building partnerships, creating localized strategy
Bosch India showcased its newly-planned connected products and smart solutions for the sectors beyond the mobility space at its biennial flagship event, Beyond Mobility 2.0, held in Bangalore recently.
Although 80 per cent of the company’s revenue is from the automobility sector, the event purely focused on offering connected solutions to various other sectors such as energy, agriculture, factories and smart homes.
Bosch India’s Beyond Mobility solutions have grown by 35 per cent over the past few years, becoming one of the main contributors to the Bosch Group turnover.
Mr. Soumitra Bhattacharya, Managing Director, Bosch Ltd., and President, Bosch Group India, said at the event: “Our business is in a process of profound transformation from a hardware focus to models that focus more on services and data. We have the capability to develop greenfield technology that can power industries in a new-age manner.”
He stated that the key to the company’s success would be to build partnerships with local players, to drive connectivity forward and to create a localized strategy to meet consumer demand.
Mr. Bhattacharya also highlighted the company’s focus on R&D by revealing that it spends close to 8 to 10 per cent of its total turnover for research and development. Bosch currently has 18 production facilities across India, with close to 59,000 people working for R&D.
The company is pursuing a “3-S” strategy for India, with sensors, software and services being its prime focus. The areas it focuses on in the Beyond Mobility space are connected industry, digital services for all segments, smart home, smart cities and connected transportation, energy solutions, energy efficiency, etc.
The major heads of various departments from Bosch, who spoke at the event, referred to the company’s digital transformation solution, Phantom, for SMEs, which gives SME owners analytic and real-time data for their machinery. This is offered to the companies on subscription.
One of the other solutions offered by Bosch is the RFID-based tracking tags for power tools, automatic solutions for production facilities, connected tech for home appliances, and so on.
A company spokesperson also briefly spoke on Industry 4.0 technologies, which is a key component of Bosch’s Beyond Mobility portfolio. In line with Industry 4.0, the company has started building smart factories with special focus on automation, digitalization, AI and IoT that would boost productivity, quality and safety.
Bosch aims to be a leading user and a major provider of Industry 4.0 solutions for the Indian market to build an ecosystem of business where affordable digital solutions can be provided for SMEs and consumers.
