Ashok Leyland is now fairly better placed in the MDV bus segment. The range and options are quite good that the company always has a product for any large bus application. This translates into a 61 per cent marketshare in this segment, which is actually very good. Unlike MDV buses which almost a duopoly market, ICV buses always have strong competition. Ashok Leyland does have its presence in this segment with its Lynx and Stag with varied wheel base and seating options. With the existing range of ICV buses the company enjoys a marketshare of 20 per cent in ICV buses. Anticipating growing opportunities in this segment, the company has launched two new products: Lynx Smart and Lynx Strong catering to various applications.

Ashok Leyland presents a smart and strong solution for urban and rural transport with these two different products. Fully-built bus options are available with the new Bus Body Code coming into force. Also, these products have a new look and appearance.
All buses meet the Bus Body Code AIS052, ensuring passenger safety and comfort. Meeting the roll-over standards and they are fitted with fire-resistant interior materials and the seating layouts ensure that there is enough space for every passenger. The vehicles are equipped with traditional safety features like the emergency door, fire extinguisher,first – aid kits, enhanced safety features like passenger door alarm and overhead grab rails and anti-skid floor.
The range of products also has an inbuilt anti-lock braking system for safe and effective braking system with added advantage of air brakes and a factory-fitted speed limiting device complying with the AIS063 and AIS052 norms, thereby enhancing safety for passengers. With these safety features, Ashok Leyland was market ready long before any statutory regulations like AIS052, came into force.
Further, with a personalized driver fan, these products come with choices of variants like seating capacities from 28 to 68, AC and non-AC options, diesel and CNG engine options in BS3 and BS4 emission variants, and poarabolic and semi – elliptical suspension for a smooth ride.
While the BS3 engines are fitted with operation and maintenance-friendly Inline Fuel Injection Pump (FIP) engine making Lynx range of bus easy on the pockets, BS4 engines are introduced with a sophisticated CRS fuel systems and EGR technology.
Ashok Leyland’s quest for being environment friendly has made it introduce CNG vehicles with an innovative MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) technology giving out the best-in-class mileage and trouble-free starts of engine. Hence, there is a bus for every kind of operation. Fleet operators and managers stick to the legendary fuel economy for which Ashok Leyland buses are famous for. The Lynx range of products caters to all emerging demands and areas like city feeder application, stage carrier application, school and college, staff and tourist application.
Lynx Smart – the smart midi bus
The Ashok Leyland Lynx Smart is a smart midi bus for your transport solutions. With seating capacities from 28 to 42 in 2X2 configuration (for staff buses) and upto 68 seats in 2X2, 3X2 & 3×3 configuration (school bus), the product range also covers a front door option in 5200 mm wheel base variant. These buses are smart- light weight, with just two steps (Entry + 2) and slim body contours (2200mm and 2350mm body widths). The different body width gives an option of different seat layouts resulting in multiple seating capacities. Moreover, it comes with an added advantage of personalized driver fan for driver’s comfort, an enhanced leg room, factory fitted ABS & Speed Limiting Device, door alarms etc.
Lynx Strong – the strong midi bus
Ashok Leyland Lynx Strong is a midi bus with the heart of an MDV. Equipped with heavy duty axles and chassis frame dimensions, these buses can take on really tough terrains and operating conditions. These features have made the Lynx brand a favourite amongst bus owners and passengers on the roughest and toughest routes.
With generous body dimensions like the 2550mm body width, these buses can seat from 33 to 48 passengers in a 3X2 seating configuration, and upto 56 seats in 3X3 school bus configuration. An FIP-equipped engine ensures that the operation and maintenance cost of a Lynx Strong is reasonably low.
