Moving household, parcels, perishables and small business consignments is always a challenge to families, SMEs and small time retailers. With an aim of bridging the gap and servicing this niche segment, two young men from Chennai, Mr. Suresh Kumar and Mr. Ashwin Gurunathan have launched Cargoji, an online logistics firm, in August this year.
One can log on to www.cargoji.com to move anything within the city, ranging from household shifting, food delivery, business related deliveries, etc. In just four months since its launch, Cargoji has enrolled a fleet of over 350 mini-trucks which includes the Tata Ace, Ashok Leyland Dost, Tata 407 and some Eicher models, catering to different categories spanning across the entire city.
In order to enlarge the scope and spread awareness about the unique concept to the public, the company had organized a function presided over by Mrs. B. Yamuna Devi, Additional Commissioner, Customs (Air Cargo). The meet was attended by more than 200 drivers who were delighted on being awarded smartphones by the dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering at the meet, Mrs. Yamuna Devi said: “We are happy to see this new initiative, benefitting the mini-truck drivers and the general public. Cargoji’s project is different and helps the common man a lot. I would urge the company to enlist women drivers also, as they would be very serious and careful at work, which would further help the business and the customers.”
Said Mr. Suresh Kumar, Co-Founder & CEO, Cargoji: “In a short span of four months, we have received excellent response from all our customers and are growing by the day. Through our recent initiative, we focused on empowering the drivers of mini-trucks and small transport vehicles by giving them a smartphone. The phones will be connected to a grid and if somebody, say in Anna Nagar, wants a transport vehicle, the message will be communicated to the driver who is nearby and the link is processed.”
Mr. Ashwin Gurunathan, Co-Founder & CMO, Cargoji, added: “Cargoji has forged ties with FMCG, SMEs and major e-commerce companies with close to 90 per cent resource utilization of trucks every month. We are currently finalizing contracts with large corporate firms with a vision of process improvements in last mile connectivity, return-loads and customized cargo solutions. Keeping in mind the technological need and the ease it provides to the transportation business, we have introduced the Cargoji Mobile App which will prove helpful to both customers and drivers.”
