Chetak Group Founder Chairman conferred with ‘Haryana Ka Lal’ Title

Jai Karan Sharma, Founder Chairman, Chetak Group was conferred with the title of “HARYANA KA LAL” at the Sarv Brahman Samaj organised Parshuram Excellence Awards 2024, here, today. He He was honoured for excellence in Entrepreneurship and his outstanding and relentless contribution to the socio-economic development of Haryana. The event organised by Brahman Samaj witnessed the presence of top Brahman Luminaries from Haryana including Shri Mohan Lal Badoli Ji BJP President Haryana, Shri Ram Bilas Sharma Former BJP President Haryana, Shri Mool Chand Sharma former Minister and MLA Balabgarh, Shri Kuldeep Vats MLA Badli INC and Shri Mukesh Sharma MLA Gurgaon, who gave away the award. The award was received by Smt. Krishna Sharma, wife of late Shri Jai Karan Sharma and his sons Shri Mukesh Haritash, Shri Rajesh Haritash and Shri Sachin Haritash, Directors, Chetak Logistics.

Speaking on the occasion Shri Mohan Lal Badoli, President BJP, Haryana said,”We are proud to confer the title of `Haryana Ka Lal` upon late Shri Jai Karan Sharma recognising his growth story of a farmer`s son who belonged to a small village and with his passion and hard work went on to set up one of the largest logistics companies in India. He created immense employment opportunities, supported numerous budding entrepreneurs and through his philanthropic outreach helped education institutions, especially focussing on encouraging girl students. I was happy to hand over the award to his wife and sons who are taking his legacy forward, by expanding his business and through social work.”

An enchanting panel discussion

The event started with an enriching panel discussion on “Our roleand responsibility for the social upliftment of underprivileged,”moderated by Shri Sukhbir Sharma, Director – Operations – The Chatterjee Group, Shri Manohar Bhat Former Director KIA Motors, Shri Mahabir Parshad Sharma – Fonder Anil Cargo, Shri Vinay Kaushik – Deputy Secretary Govt of Delhi and Shri Shashikant Kaushik – President World Brahmin Federation shared their views and perspectives on the theme. The discussion was very well received by the audience, comprising prominent members from Brahman Samaj from Haryana and NCR.

Shri Jai Karan Sharma

Shri Jai Karan Sharma, the son of a farmer, hailing from Jhinjhar, a small village in Haryana was a self-made entrepreneur who started from scratch and went on to build the Chetak Group, one of the leaders in Logistics, in India. His success sparked the imagination of a generation of progressive Indian entrepreneurs. He was a business statesman and visionary who introduced, what is now called Integrated Logistics solutions with multi-modal transportation, warehousing,packaging and just-in-time solutions, and way back in the 1980s.

He stood for inclusive growth. He supported numerous potential entrepreneurs in setting up their own transport companies. He created livelihood opportunities for thousands of people. He had a passion for helping underprivileged people of society. He contributed to the education sector by supporting the infrastructure development of schools and colleges for economically weaker children.

Shri Sharma`s contributions to the social and economic development of society at large have been numerously recognised by many national and international organisations. In the past he was awarded the`Transport Rattan” the `Rashtriya Udyog Ratan`Award, `Outstanding National Citizen` and he was also bestowed with the title of `Transport Samraat` and the`Udyog Rattan` Award by the Institute of Economic Studies.

He left for his heavenly abode in October 2020. Posthumously, the Logistics Industry bestowed him the title of `The Logistics man of India` in 2021. Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Hon`ble Minister for Tourism, Culture and Development of the North-Eastern Region,released a postal Stamp issued by the Indian Postal Department to honour and recognise Shri Sharma`s contribution to the nation`s socio-economic development, in 2022. He was also honoured with the`Life Time Achievement Award` at the Social Impact Award in Jan 2023. He was awarded the title of “The Logistics Man of India” by The Economic Times (ET Auto), was conferred with the `Real Heroes` award by Zee TV and was given a `Life Time Achievement Award` by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM),recently.

His dream lives on, through the Chetak Foundation, a social arm of Chetak Group, set up by his family as a tribute to its founder Late Shri Jai Karan Sharma`s vision of making a positive impact on the lives of underprivileged communities. The Foundation is focussing on various areas including Education, Environment, Health, Livelihood, Nutrition and Road Safety.
