The U-Truck’s Instrument Cluster & Body Control Module has been supplied by Automotive Infotronics (a joint venture between Ashok Leyland & Continental). This is an electronic instrument cluster designed and developed by AIPL and manufactured at Continental facility, Bangalore. It has 6 stepper motors to display the vehicle parameters such as speed, RPM value, fuel level, coolant temp, engine oil pressure and air pressure. Apart from this, there are 30 telltales in this electronic cluster. In addition to this the cluster has an advisory GSAS feature and an inbuilt flash memory to store vehicle operation data of about 25 days.
GSAS function advises the driver to shift gear Up/Down with simple arrow telltale indications. If followed meticulously by driver it will improve fuel efficiency. Flash memory data after downloaded and analyzed will give useful information to the various stake holders on the vehicle operation. This is a useful tool to improve operational efficiency.
The product is a part of multiplexing system used in vehicles for reducing the complexity in wiring harness and increase safety. It acts as a diagnostic tool to display the faults in instrument cluster. BCU acts as a gateway of communication to various other ECU’s in vehicle such as engine ECU, transmission ECU, brakes ECU. Thus the electronic environment enhances the operation.
