DENSO Corporation firmly believes that the future is for making and not just for talking about. That’s why the company is always into developing new and innovative technologies to cater to the future requirements of the automakers. At the 14th Auto Expo (Components), the Japanese brand’s Indian subsidiary displayed a slew of new products that fall across powertrain, electronics, information and safety, thermal management, and aftermarket categories.
Asked about the DENSO International India’s prime focus at the expo this year, Mr. Sunil Soni, Deputy GM (Head of Department, Sales Strategy Function), said that both OEM and aftermarket end-users are their target audience. “We are an international technology house creating a wide array of products for different OEMs. Today we are showcasing a few of them that are able to meet the upcoming stringent environmental and safety norms in the country. We work closely with the Indian OEMs across segments, including CVs, and are keen to follow their direction to offer what they want”, he added.
Some of the new products displayed at Auto Expo included Emission Control (EC) components, Lithium-ion battery pack (for small passenger applications) and Motor Generator, Stereo Vision Sensor and Millimeter-wave Radar Sensor, Compact Stereo Vision Sensor, Driver Status Monitor, Vehicle finder and security system (for two-wheelers), ceiling blower fan (cabin blower fan) and Green Cabin air-conditioner filter for PM 2.5. The other existing products like Power control unit, Engine and Battery ECU, Iridium Power spark plugs, and DENSO Test Bench for CRS injectors were also showcased.
Established in 1986, DENSO is now operating six companies in India that develop and manufacture products best suited for the Indian market based on local needs. This includes the Global Research and Development Centre that provides technical services and development of new products, and the Global Technical Training Centre to support our service dealers and OE customers in the country.
In the commercial vehicle segment, DENSO is associated with major automakers, including Volvo Buses, VECV and Eicher Polaris. Mr. Soni revealed that DENSO is supporting BS-VI preparation of VECV with the development of a new common rail diesel injection system, along with the supply of other engine-related aggregates. “New products like cabin ceiling blower fan and Driver Status Monitor boasts greater potential for long-distance haulage trucking, where in-cabin comfort and driver attention is of immense importance”, he said. He reiterated that every new technology can be adapted for heavy vehicles if the customer wants.
On electrification and hybridization of vehicles, Mr. Soni observed that DENSO does not perceive such disruptive changes are threats. “Transition to new powertrain systems that are eco-friendly and electronics-cum-connectivity technologies are inevitable, so whenever OEMs are ready to move further as per their demands, we can cater to their needs”, he said, adding that DENSO is way ahead in developing technologies for tomorrow.
