DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, and Blue Dart, South Asia’s premier integrated express package distribution company, celebrated 60 years of successful Indo-German trade relations, by hosting a collaborative festivity called “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”.
The main focus of the celebration was the ‘Indo-German Urban Mela’ that looked at the implications of rapid urbanization in today’s megacities, where a set of modern multi-purpose pavilions were put up for 10 days in five different cities in India, including Delhi, which was the final destination.
As one of the city partners of the Indo-German Urban Mela, Deutsche Post DHL, the parent company, presented itself in a pavilion as an innovative and reliable partner to solve challenges posed by the pace of change in urban living.
In the Deutsche Post DHL pavilion, interactive pillars and exhibits gave visitors an impression of DHL’s network in India and around the world: With a digital exhibit following a shipment in India, an informative short film about an Urban Freight Center and an interactive game with the DHL Smart Truck, the company presented how it can minimize its most significant impact on the environment – emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2).
“Through its environmental protection program, GoGreen, the company is committed to improving the carbon efficiency of its own operations and those of the transportation sub-contractors. These efforts will also help to improve the quality of life in megacities,” said Malcolm Monteiro, Senior Vice President & Area director – South Asia, DHL Express.
Another pillar in the DHL pavilion covered the topic GoTeach. This Deutsche Post DHL initiative deals with one of the most important issues for personal and economic development, employment and prosperity: education.
“Deutsche Post DHL, one of the world’s largest private employers, is living up to its responsibility by promoting high-quality education for every child,” said Anil Khanna, Managing Director, Blue Dart Express.
DHL offered the exhibition visitors an impressive overview of its one-of-a-kind portfolio of logistics and services. The DHL brand in India encompasses DHL Global Forwarding, DHL Express, Blue Dart and DHL Supply Chain, the four major players in the domestic and international logistics space. Together they offer expertise in international and domestic express, air and ocean freight, customs brokerage, overland transport and contract logistics solutions.
“DHL is strongly committed to investing in Asia, which is expected to be one of the key drivers of growth. With our recent investments in India and China, we are confident of pursuing DHL’s global strategy to support trade and business development worldwide,” said Mr. Vikas Anand, Chief Operating Officer, DHL Supply Chain.
DHL Express recently opened its biggest express hub in Asia – the $175 million North Asia hub – in Shanghai. Additionally, DHL Supply Chain has announced an investment of $130 million to strengthen logistics infrastructure in India.
About 470,000 employees in more than 220 countries and territories form a global network focused on service, quality and sustainability. With programs in the areas of environmental protection, disaster management and education, Deutsche Post DHL, the parent company, aims to achieve a balance between economic, environmental and social interests.
