Duratuf Glass Industries Pvt. Ltd. (DGI), India’s leading flat and curved glass producer, established in 1992 at Bahadurgarh (Haryana), near Delhi, supplies glass and glazing products for buses and LCVs both in India and abroad under the brand name DURATUF & DURASAFE. In order to establish itself in southern India, Bangalore Safety Glass Works Pvt. Ltd. (BSGW) was started by the group in 1996 in the Bommasandra Industrial Estate, Bangalore, for its brand DURATUF.
A conglomerate of seven manufacturing units located in Delhi, Haryana, Indore and Bangalore, with its indigenised, state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, the company has been following a continuous program of innovation and expansion, embracing all aspects of glass processing, particularly taking into account the need for energy-efficient glasses to combat the harsh climatic environment. Its toughened glass used in automobiles offers high safety in case of breakages and is scratch resistant.
Discussing in detail the company’s product range and its marketing strategy in an interview to R. Natarajan, Motorindia, Managing Editor and Publisher, Mr. N.C. Gupta, Managing Director, Duratuf Glass Industries Pvt. Ltd., said: “Our glasses are the most relied upon among the vehicle OEMs such as Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, Volvo, SML Isuzu, Eicher, M&M, Scania, Bharat Benz and HM as well as bus body builders like ACGL, JCBL, Azad Coach, Irizar TVS, Sutlej, etc. In the STU segment we cater to KSRTC, MSRTC, TNSTC, APSRTC, RSRTC, Haryana Roadways and others”.
The company’s glasses are exported to countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. It produces glasses which are as big as 1.83 m by 2.6 m for buses. The product range also includes bullet-proof, high-strength glasses for security enclosures. The company has been achieving an impressive growth year on year since inception. With an expanding share for its products, the company is aiming to achieve an overall sales turnover of Rs. 200 crores in 2014-2015, he added.
Future plans
Mr. Gupta further disclosed that his company started manufacturing aluminium windows for urban bus applications where high technology is deployed to design and manufacture custom-built windows complying with the production specifications. It has also put up a production unit in Indore exclusively for Eicher Motors which is scheduled to commence production in the beginning of 2014.
