One of the tarpaulin specialists with extensive expertise in the design and manufacture of parts for load safe side curtains is Edscha TS. Rajesh Rajgor gets further information about the new generation of side curtain systems that will be needed in the future by speaking with Roger Remmel, Area Sales Manager and Brand Manager, European Trailer Systems GmbH
Quick Curtain at IAA 2022
Our focus this time is to show what we can do for our traditional customers, what we can do for attaining more efficiency and how we can be more sustainable. We have showcased some detailed updates for better handling of our products with more reliability and less varying in our existing product lines. In addition to that, we have two new things to discuss with the market, the most important being the Quick Curtain solution, which is made to become a standard solution, while the second is the tipper roof solution.
The Fastest Side Curtains
Most likely, it is the fastest side curtain ever created. The new Quick Curtain side curtain from Edscha TS offers a small speed experience when opening or closing because it takes one man around a minute to comfortably complete the procedure. The new Quick Curtain will be the topic of conversation everywhere and logisticians will talk about the new quick, efficient and most importantly, safe choices for loading and unloading in the face of increasing freight quantities.
Quick Curtain is a side curtain that runs on rollers both above and below. The rollers are guided by solid and very precisely manufactured segmented steel rails.
And there is another special feature: during assembly, the usual approximately 20 dead centre tensioners in the curtain and the separately operated stanchions are completely dispensed with. The vertical Kevlar tensioning belts incorporated between the curtain rollers and the roller rail also eliminate the need for all lateral insertion profiles. The system is designed for all standard applications and also with positive locking loading according to EN12642 ‘XL’ with verification by dynamic testing.
During the entire assembly of the Quick Curtain system, the vertical tensioning tubes on the bulkhead and rear portal are retained. The same applies to the familiar roof straps with SPR4 tarpaulin rollers of the standard series. The system is supplemented by the new LP4 rolling stanchion and the lower rolling anchors on a curtain specially made by Edscha TS. This is something we discussed here in the market and have received very good feedback. We are very happy with the resonance from the audience.
Fuel-Efficient Tipper Cover
We are also showcasing the Tipper Roof, our highly innovative, user-friendly and flexible sliding roof construction that has attracted tremendous praise. It has been developed with the outstanding Edscha TS expertise and combines all the advantages of the familiar and proven Edscha TS roof technology. It is modular in design, which means it can be mounted on almost any standard skip. The gate-shaped curve geometry of the lightweight yet robust bar construction is optimised for large load volumes.
The crucial advantages of the Tipper Roof are its tremendous ease of use and ergonomics. The user-friendliness is above all characterised by the fact that the sliding roof can open and close really easily at the side within 30 seconds thanks to its patented kinematics. The tarpaulins can now be closed without the need for time and effort, which is even more interesting when observing the fact that journeys with a closed roof offer 10% diesel savings. The Tipper Roof can even usually remain closed during tipping.
Market Demand in Europe and India
On account of the huge volumes of technology, Europe has a market that is far advanced with a variety of products, particularly when it comes to trailer bodies where we have a much advanced system as regards loading techniques, material handling and load security systems. From my perspective, things are a little different in India because this isn’t being offered today—not given in the standardisation of packaging, handling for loading and unloading and fleet environments. Although the product selection is a little different, we are content with it. In India our VarioSystem covers all needs for trucks and trailers with sideboards, side curtains and even bodies with solid steel walls with growing market share. We are also happy to see that our consumers are becoming more receptive to our systems for large loads, particularly those with tipping roofs.
