Eicher Trucks & Buses, a part of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has officially entered the small commercial vehicle (SCV) segment, marking a significant milestone in the company’s journey. With the launch of its first electric small commercial vehicle, Eicher is poised to make a strong impact in the rapidly evolving intra-city logistics and last-mile delivery market.
Speaking about the company’s foray into this space, Abhishek Chaudhary, Senior Vice President – SCVs, VE Commercial Vehicles, shared his enthusiasm: “Small commercial vehicles are an exciting space, and Eicher’s entry is set to create a buzz in the market. This move aligns with our commitment to providing advanced, sustainable, and efficient transport solutions to our customers.”
Leading with Electric: A Strategic Move
Unlike many industry players who start with conventional fuel options before transitioning to electric, Eicher has boldly chosen to launch its first SCV as an electric vehicle (EV). This decision stems from the company’s vision to align with the evolving market demands and sustainability goals.

“Sustainability is a key priority for businesses today. Many organizations are actively seeking logistics solutions that help them meet their environmental goals. With this in mind, we designed our electric SCV to cater to this emerging need, ensuring that businesses can seamlessly integrate clean transportation into their supply chains,” said Chaudhary.
Understanding the Market Potential
The SCV segment in India, particularly in the 2 to 3.5-ton category, is witnessing rapid growth, driven by the expansion of e-commerce, quick commerce, and urban logistics. The market is currently estimated at 330,000 to 340,000 units annually, growing at a rate of 6-7% CAGR.
Eicher’s approach to entering this competitive space has been distinct. Instead of merely introducing a product and pushing it into the market, the company adopted a co-creation approach.
“We engaged extensively with our customers—studying their duty cycles, understanding their needs, and incorporating their inputs into the vehicle design. We didn’t want to be a ‘me-too’ player. Our legacy has always been about differentiation, and this product embodies that philosophy,” Chaudhary explained.
Confidence Backed by Legacy and Customer Trust
Eicher has been a trusted name in the light and medium commercial vehicle (LCV & MCV) segment, a leadership position that provides a strong foundation for this new venture.

“Our confidence in this product stems from our legacy and the unwavering trust our customers have in the Eicher brand. Customers know that when a vehicle comes from Eicher, it is designed to offer something truly different,” said Chaudhary.
Cutting-Edge Manufacturing at the Bhopal Plant
The new Bhopal manufacturing plant, where the SCV is being produced, is a state-of-the-art facility designed with Industry 4.0 capabilities. This modern production line is dedicated to SCVs and has an initial annual capacity of 40,000 units, ensuring scalable and efficient production.
A Modular Platform for Multiple Fuel Options
While Eicher has started with electric, the company has designed its platform to accommodate multiple fuel options, ensuring adaptability to market needs.
“One fuel cannot be the solution for the entire industry. We are starting with electric, but in due course, CNG and diesel variants will follow. Our approach is to be ready with solutions as and when the market requires them,” Chaudhary noted.
A Customer-Centric Design for Maximum Efficiency
Eicher’s new SCV is packed with innovative features that enhance comfort, safety, and operational efficiency.
- Walk-through Cabin: Allows the driver to move inside the vehicle without exiting, an essential feature in tight urban spaces.
- Optimized Gear & Handbrake Placement: The gear lever and handbrake have been repositioned for better ergonomics and ease of use.
- Driver Monitoring System (DMS): Alerts drivers in case of distractions, ensuring higher road safety.
- Advanced Infotainment & Connectivity: The infotainment system doubles as a reverse parking camera, and the vehicle is fully digitized with real-time telematics and geofencing capabilities.
- Best-in-Class Visibility: A 210-degree windscreen offers an unobstructed view of the road.
- Largest Cargo Space in the Segment: With a 10.8-foot cargo bed, this SCV provides the highest available cargo capacity in its category.

“Every detail has been carefully designed to enhance the driver’s experience and ensure maximum efficiency. From the cabin comfort to digital connectivity, our focus has been on offering a truly next-generation SCV,” Chaudhary highlighted.
Industry Debut at Bharat Mobility
Eicher’s new SCV made its official debut at Bharat Mobility, a key industry event where it was showcased to stakeholders and customers. “This is the youngest baby in the Eicher family, and we are incredibly excited to bring it to the market. We have built it thoughtfully, ensuring it caters to the needs of various industries and applications,” said Chaudhary.
One of the standout elements of the vehicle is the “X” branding, which holds a deeper meaning.
“In this industry, the true experts are the people driving these vehicles. They are the backbone of logistics, ensuring goods reach their destinations safely and on time. The ‘X’ in our branding represents this ‘expertise’—a tribute to their skill and dedication,” he added.
With this launch, Eicher is not just introducing a new vehicle but setting new benchmarks in the small commercial vehicle space. Its electric-first strategy, customer-focused design, and scalable production capabilities position it strongly for success.
As the industry embraces sustainability and efficiency, Eicher’s entry into the SCV market is set to redefine urban logistics with cutting-edge technology and a customer-centric approach.
