EEPC’s ambitious export target of
$100 billion for 2012-13
awards
The Tamil Nadu Governor, Dr. K.
Rosaiah, has said that EEPC has set
an ambitious export target of $100
billion by 2012-13 with its special
promotional efforts in the focus re-
gions of South-East Asia, Africa,
Latin America and Commonwealth
countries.
Inaugurating the regional export
award presentation function of the
EEPC-India Southern Region in
Chennai, the Governor disclosed
that EEPC has plans to organise one
of the largest engineering sourcing
shows in Canada which is expected
to attract about 750 businessmen
from around the world and an Indian
contingent of over 6,000 business-
men.
Dr. Rosaiah also presented the
EEPC Awards for 2009-10 to 60 en-
gineering firms for their exemplary
export performance.
In his keynote address, Mr. Aman
Chadha, National Chairman, EEPC
India, said that 2010-11 is an ex-
tremely difficult year for exporters,
particularly engineering export-
ers. India’s engineering exports in
2009-10 dropped to $32.5 billion
from $40.5 billion in the previous
year, registering a negative growth
of over 19 per cent. In this scenario,
the Award winners for 2009-10 are
real national heros.
He disclosed that the Southern
Region is estimated an account for
20 per cent of engineering exports in
2009-10. This is no mean achieve-
ment.
Referring to the extremely com-
plex global economic environment,
Mr. Chadha stressed the need to step
up efforts since export receipts are
the real earnings for the nation un-
like capital receipts like loans, FDI
and portfolio investment which have
to be played back.
Earlier, in his welcome address,
Mr. R.K. Mutha, EEPC Regional
Chairman (South), said the EEPC
mission is to provide trade promo-
tion services and assistance for busi-
nesses to function competitively in
overseas markets and to represent
them in matters concerning common
and individual interests at all fora.
EEPC India is having at present
13,000 members comprising small,
medium and large-scale manufac-
turers and merchant-exporters, of
which 2,750 are from the southern
region.
The Southern Region is constantly
engaged in organising export aware-
ness programmes, topical seminars,
workshops and training programmes
on various facets of export and im-
port transactions. As a result, many
engineering firms, particularly from
the SSI sector, have made a wel-
come beginning on the export front
while several others have started ex-
porting to unexplored markets as in
Latin America, he added.

Engineering exporters have to
become increasingly cost com-
petitive so that they can face
challenges of an uncertain glo-
bal trading environment.
