Tractors and Farm
Equipment Ltd. (TAFE)
TAFE pioneered mechanisation
of Indian farms in 1960, by manu-
facturing and marketing the Massey
Ferguson range of tractors and allied
farm equipment. The company con-
tinues to be a catalyst of change in
the lives of Indian farmers, empow-
ering them with its complete farm
mechanisation package that includes
tractors and farm equipment, train-
ing in modern farming and adaptive
agricultural research.
Now ranked among the top six
tractor manufacturers in the world,
TAFE offers rugged, heavy duty, fu-
el-efficient tractors that meet every
need of the Indian farmer. It manu-
factures 25 hp to 90 hp tractors at its
four modern plants.
TAFE has a pan India presence
with over 2,000 dealers, branches
and parts/service outlets.
India Pistons Ltd.
India Pistons Ltd. (IPL) is the first
auto ancillary manufacturing unit
established in India. In its growth
spanning six decades, it has consist-
ently strived to enhance and equip
itself to develop world class quality
standards in manufacturing automo-
bile components.
Today, IPL’s world class plants
have the most advanced equipment
to manufacture pistons, piston rings,
gudgeon pins, circlips, cylinder lin-
ers, ferrous castings, large bore pis-
tons and ring carriers to meet any
manufacturer’s standards globally.
The other products include automo-
tive valves and gaskets for various
applications.
The company’s world class manu-
facturing plants are located at Sem-
biam and Sengundram near Chen-
nai.
Mahle IPL Ltd.
Mahle IPL Ltd. (MIPL) is a joint
venture with Mahle GmbH, Ger-
many, to manufacture pistons for
automotive applications complying
with stringent emission norms of
Euro IV and above. Equipped with
automated casting cells and robo-
tised machining lines at its hi-tech
plant in Maraimalai Nagar, MIPL
has a capacity of 4.8 million pistons
per annum. MIPL has set up satellite
assembly units in Gurgaon, Hosur,
Pune and Uttarakhand, close to cus-
tomer plants.
MIPL’s customers include Ashok
Leyland, Tata Motors, Volvo-Eich-
er, Suzuki Powertrain, Mahindra,
Piaggio and Navistar. It is also
working with several OEMs in de-
veloping pistons for their new en-
gine platforms.
IP Rings Ltd.
IP Rings, India’s pioneer and lead-
er in speciality steel piston rings,
was promoted by India Pistons,
Simpsons, TAFE and Amalgama-
tions in 1991 with equity participa-
tion and technical collaboration with
Nippon Piston Ring Co. Ltd. (NPR),
Japan.
The company specialises in steel
piston rings and offers a range of
cast iron and SG iron compression
rings. The company has the know-
how to offer 3-piece oil rings of ei-
ther ‘S’ or ‘H’ design, as well as cast
iron and steel gas, nitrided conform-
able oil rings. It offers cutting-edge
surface engineering technologies for
coatings like chrome plaiting, plas-
ma spray and gas nitriding.
The company has developed
transmission components for Tata
Motors, Iligin/Hyundai, Piaggio
vehicles, MAN Force and TAFE.
Its product range for piston rings
and transmission components cov-
ers the entire spectrum of auto-
mobile segments including heavy
commercial vehicles, light com-
mercial vehicles, multi-utility vehi-
cles among others.
IP Pins & Liners Ltd.
IPPL, a venture promoted by
IPL, was set up in 1988 at Ma-
raimalai Nagar for manufacturing
precision heat treated, machined
steel components for automotive
industries, fuel pump manufactur-
ing segments and general / light
engineering segments.
