Today the automotive industry is undergoing major changes. All top OEMs, especially in the two-wheeler segment, are focussed aggressively on their product development capabilities and are looking for technically capable suppliers who can add value to their immediate and future needs.

Omax really understands the future needs. Hence engineering & technology has become a part of its strategy for the next few years. The company is continuously working to strengthen its R&D and engineering capabilities and has set up a unit to meet the proto requirements of components, sub-assemblies and frames within a time-frame of 7 to 40 working days.

Omax has equipped itself with the first-of-its-kind tube laser cutting machine from BLM of Italy and the general laser cutting machine from Bystronic of Switzerland to handle tubular and sheet metal proto requirements. Its R&D-cum-tool room with more than 20 engineers and 30 technicians is equipped with various CNC/wire cutting machines to make soft proto tools. It has also 12 NXG, 4 Catia station capable of simulating sheet metal forming using Altair Hyperform and plans to add FEA software soon.

The set-up is currently capable of developing special-purpose machines (SPMs) for welding, machining and other processes. The company is also working on future welding technologies required for aluminium, hybrid material as well as for laser welding.

Omax participated in Auto Expo Components 2014 with a view to broadening its reach amongst OEMS by demonstrating its engineering and manufacturing capabilities and seeking potential technology partners.

The company is also planning to join hands with global players to enhance its product development capability along with the testing & validation facility, and has shortlisted a few Japanese and European partners for the purpose. In the next 12-18 months it wants to become a supplier who will be working along with customers at their facility from the raw data stage (preliminary design) to finalization of product and be a close and active partner in NPD.
