EXCON 2011, a roaring success

“The Indian construction equipment industry is set to play a leading role in India’s infrastructure development. There are plenty of opportunities available in the field.”

– Mr. Vipin Sondhi

EXCON 2011, South Asia’s largest exhibition on construction equipment, was held in Bangalore during November 23-27. Dr. C.P. Joshi, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of who’s who of the construction sector.

Spread over 200,000 sq. metres of display area and with 630 exhibitors, including 200 foreign companies participating in it, EXCON was the largest exhibition on construction equipment in the region. There were altogether 400 new product launches by the participating companies. There were also country pavilions from leading economies like China, Finland, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain and Turkey.

The Minister also released the CII-IECIAL Report on “Indian Earthmoving & Construction Industry Vision 2020: Commanding New Heights”.

According to Mr. Vipin Sondhi, Chairman, EXCON 2011, and Managing Director & CEO, JCB India Ltd., with each successive edition, the event registered immense growth both in terms of quality and the number of exhibitors and trade visitors. There is an urgent need to step up the pace of infrastructure development. The need for mechanization and maintenance of quality is also very high.

From live demonstrations of equipment for earthmoving & construction, lifting, material handling, concrete making, hydraulics, pneumatics and drills, to a display of power tools & piling, electronics, controls & instrumentation, compactors, and compressors & generators, Excon 2011 offered big opportunities. Apart from the participation of major equipment renting as well as leasing and financing companies that offer on-the-spot loans, visitors benefited by benchmarking product features of different makes, interacting on their requirements with technical heads, and negotiating deals with chief executives.

Coinciding with Excon 2011, CII also organised a CEOs Roundtable on “Skill Management in Construction Equipment Industry”. IECIAL, an affiliate body of CII, hosted two-day conference on “ECE Industry – Vision 2020 and Beyond”, and the Builders’ Association of India organised a members’ meet.
