In line with its vision of bringing the best of technology to India, Greaves Cotton Ltd., a leading home-grown engineering solutions company, proudly announced the launch of two new powertrain solutions at the show. Both the solutions offered class-leading fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, addressing the growing alternate fuel segment and the emerging electric vehicle segment. Greaves also showcased BS-VI ready versions of its diesel and CNG powertrains that it currently supplies to over 30 OEMs in the 3-wheeler and micro 4-wheeler segments.
On display at the company pavilion was an all-new family of multi-cylinder turbo-charged inter-cooled engines which are BS-VI compliant. Greaves Cotton also introduced Greaves Care, India’s largest multi-brand organized service and spares network for 3-wheelers and micro 4-wheelers. With the introduction of these innovative engines and aftermarket solutions, the company aimed to reinvent the last-mile mobility solutions and services space.
Speaking on the development, Mr. Nagesh Basavanhalli, MD and CEO, Greaves Cotton Ltd., said: “At Greaves Cotton, our vision is to reinvent the last-mile mobility segment with future-ready solutions and provide consumers with efficient, technologically superior products & services. With 160 years of legacy, Greaves has touched the lives of over five million customers, and we aim to bring about prosperity to the lives of countless more. In pursuit of this endeavor we continue to invest in new technologies, build capabilities and collaborate with leading players in the segment. Our technology partnerships with Pinnacle Engines & Altigreen Solutions to launch new powertrain solutions for the Indian market, the launch of Greaves Autocare targeted at the 3-wheeler and micro 4-wheeler consumers and our upgraded range of Diesel & CNG engines meeting BS-VI norms are initiatives that bring us closer to our vision.”
Greaves Cotton Ltd. has reimagined the CNG/PETROL fuelled 3-wheeler segment, by offering revolutionary linear twin piston technology, the first of its kind in India, in partnership with Pinnacle Engines of the US. Powered by this breakthrough technology, the engines deliver remarkable improvement in fuel efficiency and performance with significantly lower emissions. With up to 30% higher fuel efficiency in petrol and CNG-fuelled vehicles compared to conventional engines in this space available today, these engines ensure very low tail pipe emissions, thereby meeting BS-VI norms and thus help achieve the carbon load reduction in the environment. This technologically advanced engine will help Greaves foray in the CNG/Petrol space with strong value proposition of low total cost of ownership lending high daily savings to the end-user.
Additionally, Greaves Cotton showcased for the first time in India its high-performance electric powertrains that are completely ‘Made in India’. At the heart of this power train is an ultra-light compact high output induction motor, developed by Altigreen Propulsion Labs. This motor is controlled by a compact high performance custom designed motor controller working with lithium ion batteries. The EV powertrain was showcased as a proof of concept on existing 3W Auto on the Auto Expo Ferry vehicle, to demonstrate market ready technology.
MG Group and Greaves partner for futuristic EV concept ‘E3’
On display at the Greaves pavilion was the ‘E3’ – a futuristic 3W EV concept which combines a well-styled lightweight body designed and developed by the MG Group, with advantages of the Greaves Altigreen drivetrain technology. The lightweight body of the new vehicle is made of advanced composite material which compliments the unique Greaves Cotton EV powertrain that is made up of ultra-light battery and less moving parts. This combination is designed to deliver high performance with low total cost of ownership, giving longer running distance per charge, thus assisting in achieving enhanced earnings for the driver and ensuring non-stop availability of vehicles for the commuters.
Sharing his views, Mr. Anil M. Kamat, Managing Director, MG Group, said: “Urban Transport in India is primed for a revolution. The current political establishment is pushing hard for sustainable fuel platforms with a special emphasis on electric mobility. We at MG Group have always been passionate about the automotive industry with a focus on the commercial vehicle industry and are currently one of the largest privately owned bus building companies in India with a unique distinction of working with all the major Indian and European OEMs present in India. With our strengths in Design & Engineering combined with the technical and manufacturing capabilities in advanced composites, last-mile connectivity in urban transport is a new area of interest we wanted to explore to bring forth our strengths and passion both. We got the opportunity to collaborate with Greaves, the largest supplier of engines to this segment, which is also transitioning to becoming a full extended range supplier of fuel agnostic systems to the industry. The E3 is a true statement of our passion and is in sync with the Government’s ‘Make in India’ theme, and we are excited to jointly explore the potential for the same with our OEM partners in this segment.”
