GS Auto targets Rs. 500-crore turnover by 2016

GS Auto, the name synonymous with the Indian auto component industry, was founded in 1938, in Ludhiana. The company specialises GSAuto-AnadiSharma-picin suspension components (machined, forged and cast) for commercial vehicles (LCVs, MCVs and HCVs) and Utility Vehicles for various makes and models. It caters to major OEMs like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, Daimler India Commercial Vehciles, VECV, Maruti, SML Isuzu, Hindustan Motors, M&M, etc.

GS Auto International Ltd., the flagship company of the group, with its strength and expertise in the development and manufacture of auto components, has explored new horizons to provide a diverse range of machined components like king pin kits, spring pins, axle studs, check nuts, bushes, U-bolts, centre bolts, wheel bolts and iron casting components such as shackles, brackets and suspension leaf spring etc. GS has recently introduced their range of Heavy Duty “Speed” Clutches for Indian Commercial Vehicles and targets category turnover of Rs. 100 crores by 2016.

“Having built a strong foundation in the last 75 years and to sustain it in the years to come, GS Auto has set up one more unit in Jamshedpur with latest machinery (mostly imported) at an investment of Rs. 60 crores. The formal production of the unit has also recently started. About 90 per cent of the products from the Jamshedpur plant shall cater to commercial vehicles”, says Mr. Anadi Sharma, President Marketing, GS Auto International Ltd., during an informal chat with MOTORINDIA recently.

Talking about its aftermarket business, Mr. Sharma says, the company has a pan-India presence with more than 550 dealers and distributors, over 11,000 retailers selling its products and more than 20,000 mechanics dedicated to the parts of the company. The company has recently  undertaken steps to increase its current retail network to 15,000 by end of this year to further improve its product penetration. Nearly 60 per cent of the company’s revenue comes from this segment and nearly 30 per cent from the OEM business.

With three plants in Ludhiana running successfully and the fourth one coming up in Jamshedpur, Mr. Sharma boasts of a group turnover of Rs. 250 crores in the financial year 2014-15 and plans to double it to Rs. 500 crores by 2016-17. The company’s products are exported to Europe, South America, Middle East and South Asia which contributes of around ten per cent of the total turnover. The company also plans to set up new manufacturing facilities in the South and West in the next two and a half years to expand its customer base all over India.

Mr. Sharma, with an experience of 25 years in the auto components industry, has joined GS Auto in 2003 and contributed significantly to the company’s growth.
