The Güdel Group of Switzerland, founded by Alfred Güdel in 1954, is a prominent global provider of mechanical and engineering systems which are in use in areas like automotive, internal logistics, medical technology, aerospace engineering and railways. Fully equipped with the linear drive technology, the company engineers develop innovative products and comprehensive solutions tailored to individual applications and to the customer’s work environment. The company also analyzes industrial operations and processes with a view to automating them.
Discussing in brief the company growth and development in an exclusive interview to MOTORINDIA at Automatica 2014 fair at Munich, Mr. Rudolf Güdel, Group CEO, observed: “Güdel is a global company in the automation field, particularly press automation and power train for automotives. We have five axes articulated robots. We are also in the field of automation in the tyre, glass and the general logistics industries. We still feel automotive is the main growth driver of industry”.
Continuous R&D activities are carried on by the Güdel engineering team in new marketable mechatronic products backed up with automation technology. Development projects range from components for linear and drive technology to robots and complex system solutions. The company’s systems feature low lifecycle costs. “We strive to keep the customer’s total costs as low as possible, right from purchase to disposal. Since a major portion of our products are manufactured in-house, we are also able to address this in the production process. Our product range is designed to offer our customers the best solution without any compromise on quality”, said Mr. Güdel.
An innovative modular system consisting of components, modules and robotics, developed and produced with more than 60 years of experience, forms the core of Güdel’s business activities. The modular system is the basis for high-tech automation solutions and integrated systems with which the Swiss firm has become a world technology leader.
Referring to the company’s Indian operations, Mr. Güdel said: “Our aim is localise our products because it makes no sense in importing them. We import the basic products, while integration and assembly is done locally.
We have started our operation 10 years back. We have our manufacturing facility in Pune. We have 80 people working for us in the country.
Our products are used by all leading automotive companies in India. We have done major projects in Ford, Tata-Fiat, Honda, Ashok Leyland, Hyundai, Renault, Nissan, etc. Top Tier One like Bharat Forge and Craftsman are also using our lines”.
