Hendrickson, a leading global manufacturer and supplier of heavy-duty mechanical, elastomeric and air suspensions, integrated and non-integrated axle systems, parabolic and multi-leaf springs, and bumper and trim components, showcased a mix of new and proven technologies that meet the diverse requirements of truck manufacturers, fleets and operators in developed and developing markets worldwide.
A new global version of Hendrickson’s proven HAULMAAX heavy-duty rear elastomeric suspension system leads the range of suspension technologies for global markets that were displayed by Hendrickson at the IAA show.
“The rapidly growing international transportation market presents exciting opportunities for truck and trailer manufacturers who offer the right product in each region,” explained Gary Gerstenslager, Hendrickson president and CEO. “Success requires vehicles to be optimised for an increasingly diverse range of conditions and applications. That’s why Hendrickson, now in its second century as a global leader in the design and manufacturing of truck and trailer suspension systems, continues to focus on developing robust, proven technologies that offer precisely what truck and trailer manufacturers, fleets and operators need, anywhere in the world.”
Based on the original HAULMAAX design, thoroughly proven in the demanding North American market, the new global version is optimised for applications where light weight, durability and driver comfort are essential. High-strength materials and advanced manufacturing techniques result in reduced weight allowing operators to maximise payload while a unique elastomeric spring system delivers a superb ride combined with excellent traction and stability.
The new version of HAULMAAX, which is optimised for applications up to 21 tonnes, completes Hendrickson’s family of elastomeric suspension systems. The elastomeric family of suspensions now offers systems optimised for all markets worldwide with capacities up to 48 tonnes.
Hendrickson’s success in helping solve many of the challenges faced by truck operators is also apparent in the new, third generation version of its highly successful Mid-Lift Axle – the MLA3. In markets where an MLA brings the greatest benefits, the previous system was a driver of significant sales growth for Hendrickson as operators discovered the boost to profitability gained by using an MLA with smaller wheels and eliminating the need for a second steered axle.
The MLA3 builds on this success by employing advanced, light-weight materials technology and new manufacturing techniques to help solve the powertrain weight and packaging challenges associated with Euro 6. The new system, previewed at IAA, will strip a massive 250kg from the vehicle without compromising durability – 63kg up on the previous generation unit – improving fuel efficiency and allowing increased payload for operators.
Visitors to the Hendrickson stand at IAA were also able to see and discuss a wide range of other suspension technologies that meet the specific needs of truck and trailer manufacturers and operators worldwide. These include RTR – READY TO ROLL – wheel ends and brakes along with the next generation HXL10, the industry’s only trailer wheel-end to offer a 10-year warranty; SOFTEK NXT, a light-weight steer axle and monoleaf spring technology that saves up to 535 kg; AIRTEK, the industry’s first integrated front air suspension/steer axle system; TIREMAAX – Tire Inflation System; HSDS, The Hendrickson Severe Duty System; INTRAAX AANT, Integrated Trailer Air Suspension/Axle/Brake System and a wide range of other advanced suspension system technologies that can help improve durability, enhance fuel economy and increase payload.
“To ensure that we have exactly the right technologies for each market, we are continuing to strengthen our design, validation and customer support facilities around the world, including here in Europe,” said Gerstenslager. “The systems we showed at IAA are the result of extensive investment and development guided by feedback received from end users and the truck manufacturers. Hendrickson works hand-in-hand with the OEMs to rigorously tests each and every product it produces to ensure it delivers the innovation, performance and robustness that is expected from a Hendrickson suspension system.”
Visitors to the company stand at IAA saw the results of the development programmes focussed on Europe, North America, China and India, and discussed their specific requirements with Hendrickson’s market specialists.
