Industry leaders discussed global trends, infrastructure challenges, and innovations shaping the future of the transport sector. Companies showcased innovations like Daimler Truck’s eActros 600 with a 600 kWh battery, Michelin’s digital fleet management solutions, and MAN’s modular battery concepts. Quantron introduced heavy-duty and light trucks with fuel cell technology, Ford PRO drove electrification across its light commercial vehicles, and Kia outlined its PBV Initiative for smart city integration.

In her opening speech, VDA President Hildegard Müller highlighted the sector’s dedication to achieving climate-neutral mobility by 2050. “The industry is ready for transformation and is investing significant amounts with great dedication in climate-neutral mobility for the future,” Müller stated, stressing the need for political support in creating the appropriate infrastructure. She emphasized the importance of developing electric charging and hydrogen refueling infrastructure, robust energy networks, and embracing digitalization.

Karin Rådström, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, discussed the industry’s role in climate change and the advancements in electric truck technology. “Despite contributing 7% of global CO2 emissions, our industry has a great opportunity to be part of the solution,” she said, emphasizing the importance of megawatt charging infrastructure and the upcoming eActros 600 with its 500-kilometer range.

Attendees engaged deeply with industry leaders, gaining insights into the groundbreaking trends shaping global and Indian truck and bus mobility. Presentations from industry leaders such as Daimler Truck, Ford, MAN Truck & Bus, Michelin, and Quantron emphasized their commitment to sustainability through multi-track strategies, including battery and hydrogen-powered drives. Andreas Haller, CEO of Quantron, remarked, “We are pioneers in zero-emission transportation, focusing on fuel cell technology for heavy-duty trucks.”

A significant focus was on electrification and hydrogen technologies, with live H2 refueling demonstrations underscoring the industry’s commitment to sustainable mobility. Daimler Truck showcased innovations like the eActros 600 and the Actros L Diesel Model, emphasizing enhanced safety and advanced multimedia features. The development of megawatt charging infrastructure for electric trucks and European testing tours was emphasized, marking a significant step towards a sustainable future.

Michelin’s sustainability initiatives were another highlight. From lifecycle assessments to digital solutions like Michelin Connected Fleet, their commitment to environmental responsibility stood out. “Sustainability is about balancing people, planet, and profit,” said Philipp Ostbomk, Vice President of Sales B2B at Michelin Europa Nord. MAN’s zero-emission strategy showcased modular battery concepts and investments in hydrogen and electric technologies, complemented by extensive charging infrastructure development across Europe. Similarly, Quantron introduced heavy-duty trucks with fuel cell technology, pushing the boundaries of sustainable transportation.

Ford PRO’s electrification revolution is driven by customer feedback and productivity, extending across its entire light commercial vehicle lineup. Kia’s PBV Initiative aims to integrate advanced fleet management and AI-driven vehicles into smart city ecosystems, illustrating the future of urban mobility. Schmitz Cargobull addressed market challenges through digital transformation and innovative cost management. “Despite market volatility and cost increases, our focus remains on reducing the total cost of ownership for our customers,” stated Andreas Schmitz, CEO of Schmitz Cargobull.

During a tour of Klassikstadt Frankfurt, press representatives experienced firsthand the latest innovations from leading companies. This included live demonstrations of hydrogen refueling and electric vehicle test drives, with Mercedes-Benz Trucks CEO Karin Rådström launching the European Testing Tour for the battery-electric eActros 600. “This tour will rigorously test electric trucks and advocate for improved infrastructure across Europe,” Rådström explained.

Jan Heckmann, Head of IAA, noted the increased exhibitor numbers and the diverse international participation, with notable contributions from countries like China and Turkey. He also mentioned new exhibitors like Shandong Heavy Industries and Tesla, alongside startups in a dedicated area.

The main fair in September saw a 13% increase in exhibitors, with 70% being international, reflecting the growing global interest in the transportation sector. Notable new participants include Tesla, which will debut its Semi truck in Europe, and numerous startups in a dedicated area. Special weekend events were also planned to engage families and industry professionals, promoting a sense of community and accessibility.
