The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), a premier automotive research and development and testing agency functioning under the Government of India, inaugurated its new facilities at ICAT Centre-II with test track and administrative and auditorium block located at Sector M-11, IMT Manesar. The inauguration was done at the hands of Arvind Ganpat Sawant, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, in the presence of Dinesh Tyagi, Director, ICAT. The event was also a prelude to the NuGen Mobility Summit to be held from November 27-29. It saw the participation of several government agencies, including the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The other participants included regional transport offices of State Governments. Speaking at the event, the Minister said that India should focus on the local requirements of the customer and industry while developing a policy framework for the country. He also emphasised that the solutions which are relevant for other countries may not be suitable in the Indian context on an as-is-where-is basis. “We should consider the Indian industry with its ancillary industry by embarking on new technological advancements,” he added. Meanwhile, he expressed concern that India has a large manpower pool for which we have to ensure job security.
The Minister also cautioned that the management of e-waste is taking on serious proportions and needs to be addressed carefully. In his speech he also mentioned that the import of lithium should not replace crude import as we migrate towards electrification of vehicles. He appealed to all that the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be supported at various levels and also expressed a desire that ICAT should be a role model for such initiatives. During the event, ICAT also briefly presented the outcome of the technical assessments carried out on various hybrid and electric vehicles. The details of the same along with the econometric models will be shown during the NuGen Mobility Summit 2019.
NuGen Mobility Summit
In order to highlight the technical advantages of hybrid electric vehicles as compared to conventional fuel vehicles, ICAT will host the ‘NuGen Mobility Summit’ from November 27-29 at ICAT Centre-II, IMT Manesar, Haryana. The organisation has been at the forefront of creating the required knowledge, competencies, research and development, and testing facilities for emerging automotive technologies, including powertrain electrification technologies. The objective of the summit is to share new ideas, learnings, global experiences, innovations and future technology trends for faster adoption, assimilation and development of advanced automotive technologies for a smarter and greener future.
This event will help in building a platform for bringing together all stakeholders in the automotive industry to understand global advancements in technologies. The summit is being organised in association with SAENIS, SAE INDIA, SAE International, NATRiP, DIMTS, Department of Heavy Industry, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, SIAM and ACMA. More than 2,500 participants and over 250 exhibitors are expected to take part. Experts working with leading international scientific and research organisations and testing laboratories from various countries like USA, Europe, Japan and other Asian countries will also participate in the event and share their experiences and knowledge on development of smart and green technologies and the challenges that the industry needs to overcome.
Track demonstrations, drive-touch-feel activity and lab demonstrations on upcoming vehicle technologies like connected mobility, autonomous vehicles, electric mobility, alternate fuels, intelligent transportation system, hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen IC engine, vehicle dynamics, advance materials and light-weighting, end of life vehicles and recycling are uniqueness of this event. ICAT Manesar is a division of NATRIP Implementation Society (NATIS).
