The Indian Institute of Materials Management (IIMM), Chennai Branch, successfully conducted its annual mega event, Spectrum 2020, on a grand scale on February 21, 2020. J. Ravishankar, Chairman, IIMM (Chennai Branch), welcomed the gathering. Malay Chandan Mazumdar, National President, IIMM, in his presidential address, spoke about the importance of supply chain management and the benefits derived out of various government initiatives, including GST. P. Kaniappan, Managing Director, WABCO India Ltd., who was the chief guest, delivered an excellent presentation on ‘Smart Fleet Management Solutions’.
In his address, he said that the much-awaited BS-VI will usher in a major change in vehicle technology, safety, efficiency and environment. “Today, e-commerce is driving the commercial vehicle industry and there is more scope to widen the field. Also, logistics is the backbone of our economy and now vehicles are incorporated with lot of advanced technologies including artificial intelligence, telematics, Internet of Things, etc. Currently, there is a major focus on three aspects of mobility, namely, Autonomous, Connected and the Electric (ACE),” he said.
Kaniappan also made a detailed presentation on the pivotal role played by WABCO by helping road transportation to become reliable, greener, leaner and safer.
Dr. Aravind Bharadwaj, CTO, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Farm Equipment Sector, in his keynote address, spoke about ‘Smart Logistics: Impact of Emerging Mobility Technologies’. “While referring to energy security, there are lot of challenges and opportunities for India which is a major importer of crude oil and now lithium. Currently there are four mega trends taking place in the mobility area and these are Connected, Autonomous, Shared mobility and Electric (CASE),” he said.
Dr. Bharadwaj also spoke about Mahindra & Mahindra’s various key initiatives taken in the field of mobility. For instance, the company has developed biogas by using waste collected from in and around Chennai. Speakers from various sectors of industries shared their experience during the day-long event for which MOTORINDIA was the media partner.
