IMTMA National Productivity Summit dwells upon best productivity systems

The Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association [IMTMA] organized the National Productivity Summit 2014, the eighth in the series, at the Chennai Convention Centre on August 20 and 21.

Inauguration and the two-day proceedings were a high profile mega event that witnessed the presence of some of the renowned industry names like Mr. T.K. Balaji, Managing Director of Lucas-TVS and Delphi-TVS Diesel Systems, Mr. Anjanikumar Choudhari, Principal Adviser, Mahindra Group of Companies, Mr. Prakash Iyer, author of ‘The Habit of Winning’, Dr. N. Ravichandran, Executive Director, Lucas-TVS, and Mr. S. Kumaradevan, Vice President – Operations, TAFE, among the other dignitaries.

The summit showcased best productivity improvement projects through several interesting productivity case studies from metal working industries to choose the winners of the IMTMA-Siemens Productivity Championships Awards 2014. Well-known industry experts delivering inspiring keynote addresses on various facets of productivity and insightful plant visits to witness productivity improvements on the shop floor of renowned companies were some of the key highlights of the event.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. L. Krishnan, IMTMA President, said: “Going forward, productivity will continue to dominate the attention of all manufacturing strategies. Changing customer expectations, coupled with continuous thrust on cost reduction, have been throwing up new challenges in manufacturing. The answer lies in adopting highly productive manufacturing solutions through superior machining processes, alternative processes, automation, efficient machines and smart manpower. The National Productivity Summit is a platform for companies to experience and cross-learn some of the best productivity practices which can be implemented in their own companies”.

Productivity improvement projects from companies like Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Bosch, Delphi TVS Diesel Systems, Hero MotoCorp, Lucas-TVS, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, Reliable Autotech, Tata Motors and Wheels India were presented at the mega event. These case study presenters excelled in achieving superior performance through sustained productivity improvements.

The keynote presentations made by eminent speakers were “Nurturing Next-Gen Engineers for sustainable manufacturing excellence” by Dr. Ravichandran; “Using TQM as a Strategic Business Management Tool – the Mahindra experience” by Mr. Anjanikumar Choudhari; “Unleashing the Leader Within!” by Mr. Prakash Iyer; and “Role of Automation in Operational Excellence” by Mr. S. Kumaradevan.
