Ingersoll Rand formally inaugurated its greenfield manufacturing facility at Mahindra World City, near Chennai, on March 20. The new facility reinforces Ingersoll Rand’s overall growth strategy to drive innovation, technology and product development specifically catering to markets such as industrial efficiency, transportation, food security, environmental control in buildings and energy management. Products and solutions from this facility will be for both the Indian and global markets.

Talking about the new manufacturing facility, Mr. Venkatesh Valluri, Chairman and President, Ingersoll Rand India, observed: “India is a strategic market for Ingersoll Rand globally. The new production facility will manufacture a wide range of equipment, including bus and truck air-conditioners and commercial heating, ventilation and air-conditioning products. Delivery of products from the project will begin in May.
The new unit is spread over a green belt area of 15,200 sq.m. and holds a gold green building certification. It endeavors for harmony with nature and has considered ecological aspects such as solar street lighting and rain water harvesting. The facility envelops various energy conserving techniques that reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. It will provide an ecologically sensitive, energy-saving, waste reducing and a healthy environment for employees. With this facility, the company will generate direct and indirect employment to over 500 people located in and around the area once it reaches full capacity.
Besides the new manufacturing facility, Ingersoll Rand’s operations in India include two world class manufacturing facilities, one each in Naroda near Ahmedabad and Sahibabad near Delhi, and two engineering and technology centers, one each in Bangalore and Chennai. With a workforce close to 2,000, Ingersoll Rand has presence in more than 18 locations in India.
