Mr. Baba N. Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd., has been conferred the IOD Distinguished Fellowship Award 2013 in recognition of his distinguished track record of entrepreneurship that has set extremely high standards of ethical and transparent conduct and for Bharat Forge’s contribution towards building ‘Brand India’.
The Award was presented to him by Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, at a special ceremony held in New Delhi on IOD’s 24th Annual Day on July 19 in the presence of Indian and international business leaders, experts, jurists and economists.
Accepting the Award, Mr. Baba Kalyani said: “Bharat Forge has always been globally committed to the highest standards of corporate governance in terms of transparency, regulatory compliances and best practices while keeping its focus on sustained and responsible growth across various continents. I accept this honour as a major endorsement of our corporate philosophy by an outstanding institution of excellence. It is, indeed, a great honour to be considered worthy of the IOD Distinguished Fellowship Award”.
The Institute of Directors was established in 1990 as an independent, apex association of directors, to spearhead India’s quality revolution and build ‘Brand India’ by focusing on directors’ training and development. Its main focus is on building tomorrow’s boards by realigning their moral compass and making them more ethical, transparent and accountable. Each year, the Executive Council of the Institute selects its Fellows from among public figures of eminence for conferring the Award for their outstanding contribution to public welfare, business and society.
The first Distinguished Fellowship Award was conferred on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 1994. The other previous awardees include Mr. Kapil Sibal, Union Law Minister, Mr. TKA Nair, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways, Dr. Vijay Mallya, Chairman, UB Group, (Dr.) Justice Arijit Pasayat, former Chairman, C.A.T., Mr. Arun Maira, Planning Commission Member, Mr. Ashok Chawla, CCI Chairman, Dr. Prodipto Ghosh, former Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Mr. P.K. Sinha, Secretary – Shipping, and Mr. P.K. Misra, Secretary, Personnel, Government of India.
