JCB India Limited, India’s leading construction equipment manufacturer, is known for changing the landscape of the construction equipment industry in India. Its flagship product the 3DX Backhoe Loader, is popular for being the most versatile construction machine combining the key benefits of both the Loading Shovel and an Excavator.
It’s designed to drive around sites, drive between sites, and then drive home at the end of the day. As a result, many small-time businessmen who are buying this machine are reaping harvests. JCB has always been at the forefront of innovation.
One such prominent outfit getting a huge impetus is an East Delhi-based ‘Swastik Carriers’, who bought four 3DX Backhoe Loaders recently and are planning to buy many more in the foreseeable future.
In a chit chat with Motorindia, Mr. Anil Goyal, Owner Swastik Carriers, said, “It is a matter of immense pride for me that they have given us so much respect among our peers. I have a very long association with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Earlier, I was involved in maintenance and repair business of such machines for nearly 10 years. Thereafter, I revamped my business by hiring JCB machines in May’13. Initially, I managed with two second hand products only and the rest of the fleet was hired. These machines are in demand by MCD. That’s why; I decided to buy these machines in December’14. All of them are JCB 3DX Backhoe Loaders and are approximately worth Rs. 1.25 crore. All of them are financed. Currently, we have 8 machines out of which 6 are brand new. I have stopped hiring machines now.”
It is to be mentioned that Swastik Carriers is currently clocking a turnover of Rs. 5 crore and is eyeing to jack it up further to Rs. 8 crore. Out of its total turnover, nearly 80% is contributed by JCB’s machines and it will be going up even further in the future.
It may be recalled that 3DX’s rollout by JCB India follows the breakthrough innovative concept of Backhoe Loaders that JCB introduced in India in 1980. With this product, JCB has strengthened its marketshare in India and extended its reach even further to the developing rural markets. It has invested heavily in upgrading its manufacturing facilities and research & development keeping it at the cutting edge of innovation.
Talking about the USPs of the 3DX, Mr. Goyal, affirmed, “Like all JCB products, I found it durable, fuel-efficient, environment-friendly and maintenance-free. The machine has a robust design to tackle all types of challenging operating conditions. It also recently launched its advanced Telematics service called “The Livelink”. It offers the best return on investment and has the best resale value to those who wish to own this. We never had any servicing issues. Moreover, it sets new standards in operator comfort and performance.”
JCB India claims that the new generation 3DX Backhoe Loader comes with features such as 20% lower fuel consumption in excavation leading to fuel saving worth Rs. 2.26 lakh per year. It has the best engine with a spacious, comfortable and livable cabin. The new Backhoe Loader will also raise the benchmarks in the booming construction equipment space in times to come.
The new generation machine is powered by the JCB ecoMAX engine which is a purpose built in-house 76hp engine, big on fuel savings and high on performance with 16 valve effort
The machine has been strengthened and a reliable rear axle gives trouble free life. The loader has robust king pin design with a new JCB transmission for better dozing. It has ergonomically been designed with 20% more cabin space keeping in mind the requirement of the operator. The new bonnet with better service access enables the operator to easily carry out daily maintenance checks.
Talking about his future course of action Mr. Goyal said, “We would like to double the fleet size to 15 depending on the market scenario. We would also like to contribute to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Going forward, we are confident of bagging more clients like NDMC, SDMC.”
Currently, there are two drivers operating a single machine in two shifts for Swastik Carriers. As the returns are high, Mr. Goyal has managed to buy a land at Rs. 1.5 crore at Dilshad Garden to park its vehicles. As he is getting good returns out of JCB machine, he is ready to convert it into a garage.
In order to get a more comprehensive stance of JCB in the market, we also visited Swastik Carriers’ seller Leo Earthmovers (P) Ltd – which is the authorized dealer for JCB India Ltd. for Delhi & parts of Haryana. The three-decade old firm looks after the sales, service of parts for the complete range of JCB products (Backhoe Loader, Wheeled Loaders, Track Excavators, Telescopic handlers, Skid Steers, Cranes etc.)
Mr. Indermeet Singh, Director- Sales, Leo Earthmovers said, “I am elated that a customer like Mr. Goyal who is cautiously optimistic is betting big on the products that we sold to him. For the last 15 years, he is being working (involving cleaning operations) with the MCD. In the last 20 years, MCD has itself purchased 150 machines from JCB. Most of the machines that are running now are still in an excellent condition. Moreover, the versatility of our machines is an ideal fit for him who is working on a contractual basis. If the machines stop working, the onus is completely on us to mend it within two hours. That’s why he bought 7 machines in one shot.” Talking about other benefits to people like Mr. Goyal, Mr. Singh noted, “There are special JCB specific financing schemes that we are running. I am confident that there will be many more orders booked by people like him.”
JCB is a leading player when it comes to construction equipment in the country, more so in the Backhoe Loader segment. Despite being a multinational firm, the company has understood the requirements of the Indian market to great depth and has established the largest dealer network in India.
With recent investments in new facilities and product lines, JCB is well on its way to continue its march in the Indian market, satisfying thousands of customers in the process.
