JOST, a world-leading producer and supplier of safety-critical systems for the commercial vehicle industry, consolidates and strengthens its commitment in India with the construction of a second production plant near the southern Indian city of Chennai. The second plant in India is set up to produce front loaders and associated implements and backhoes for its strong agricultural brand Quicke at Greenbase Industrial and Logistics Park belonging to the Hiranandani group. On November 23 JOST officially opened the new plant. The first facility in Jamshedpur was set up in the year 2008 for producing fifth wheels, axles, suspensions and other products related to the business line transport which has been running and growing successfully.
The new location in Chennai gives the brand Quicke the space and capacity needed to continue meeting the increasing demands. As in other important world markets, JOST is investing in manufacturing plants in the country, both in order to be close to the market as well as benefit from the optimal use of resources available on site for addressing markets outside India.
With a construction period of less than twelve months, the established plant is strategically located close to the port and in the heart of the most industrialised Oragadam area of Chennai. Modern manufacturing technologies and assembly lines for production have been installed on the 16,866 m² premises. The neighbourhood of the plant includes leading multinational commercial vehicle, passenger car manufacturers and global R&D centres.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by Joachim Dürr, CEO of JOST Werke SE, and other senior management of the company besides the German Consulate General to India, Chennai Michaela Küchler. The new facility has 15,089 m² of production area and 17,77 m² office area.
“The establishment of the Chennai facility is an important step for JOST and its customers – a competitive manufacturing location for our agricultural product range and a commitment to the strongly growing Indian Tractor OEMs and the Indian agricultural market in general. As a valuable addition to our successful operation in Jamshedpur, it also supports our Transport business and customers”, said Joachim Dürr, CEO of JOST Werke SE.
