With the aim of providing a one-stop solution for automotive bodies and tipper manufacturing, in terms of design and sales & service, Jumbo Tipper Body Solution was founded by Mr. Yusuf Shaikh, Managing Director, Jumbo Tippers in 2016.
A qualified civil engineer who has helmed projects for several multinational companies, Mr. Shaikh acted when the opportunity struck. He owned a plot on the Pune-Nager Road near Lonikand. Over the past few years he could see a lot of tipper-related activities in the vicinity owing to the fast moving quarry industry. “Approximately 300-400 tippers would work in the area nearby to haul both overburden (dirt that is moved to reach the material to be extracted) and extracted material. We saw this a great opportunity, and after detailed discussion with my son, Sohail Shaikh, who is a trained mechanical engineer, founded Jumbo Tipper with the idea of not only building new tippers but providing service and maintenance to the tippers in the vicinity,” revealed Mr. Yusuf Shaikh, Managing Director, Jumbo Tipper.
Steady growth
The strategy to club manufacturing with service paid rich dividends in the first year. Although Jumbo Tipper set up a decent manufacturing facility, it faced changing market dynamics due to demonetisation, BS-III to BS-IV transition and implementation of GST that slowed down new tipper building orders.
Said Mr. Shaikh: “The service and maintenance helped us a lot and in continuing to sail through even when the orders were less due to several policy changes. Usually we give a one-year warranty on our tippers. We also take care of servicing or welding, denting painting, etc. We make tailor-made designs as per customer choice. We have a manufacturing capacity of 15-20 tippers and 8-10 containers a month. We are also looking at building trailers and can easily accommodate 4-5 trailers per month.”
Despite several odds, Jumbo Tipper, backed by its engineering strength, has developed container bodies, load bodies, garbage bodies, hook loaders and water tankers as per customer needs. “Our end customers are direct users as well as the dealers. We have received good response from companies that buy in bulk from the dealers. We make tippers on almost every OEM chassis and also make containers and garbage bodies. Recently we were working on 42 garbage bodies for Maharashtra Enviro Power Ltd. Also, the tipper segment is highly competitive and material sensitive. The customers always prefer cheaper products. Hence we are realistic about the business we are getting and giving the best product and services to customers. We are using high quality ST 52 grade steel,” explained Mr. Shaikh.
The second edition of Truck Trailer and Tyre Expo has not disappointed the company. “The response has been quite good for the first two days, and looking at the overall response and the orders received, there is adequate scope for business expansion, he added.
