Kerala CM honours Dr. N.S. Srinivasan

Dr. N.S. Srinivasan, a renowned highway and traffic expert, was recently honoured by the Kerala Chief Minister, Mr. Oommen Chandy, for his valuable services related to road and traffic projects in the State.

As Advisor to the Kerala Road Fund Board (KRFB), Dr. Srinivasan rendered technical guidance in planning, implementation and monitoring of road and traffic projects in the State. He was the main architect of the comprehensive road and traffic improvements project of international standard carried out in Thiruvananthapuram with public private participation (PPP). This is the first urban road development project of this kind carried out in the country with such participation.

Dr. Srinivasan had a key role in the scientific selection of 1100 km of priority roads (State Highways and District Roads) and construction of high quality roads. The rate of return of this project has been found to be high. A separate organization (Special Purpose Vehicle) is being set up to implement this project.

He worked out comprehensive road and traffic improvement schemes for Kochi and Kochikode similar to the Thiruvananthapuram project. These schemes are now being implemented.

Action is also being taken to plan and implement such road and traffic schemes in Kottayam, Thrissur, Malappuram and Kannur towns.
