Knorr-Bremse is thinking ahead. At Automechanika 2012 the company showcased a series of innovative service strategies, not least for its compressor with clutch and its electronic air control system EAC2.
“Both of these items have been installed as standard equipment for around two years now. But we’re aiming to gear our service to the needs of the future,” explains Alexander Wagner, who is responsible for Sales and Marketing Aftermarket Europe at Knorr-Bremse.
The modular design of the EAC2 system, for example, means that instead of ordering the complete unit, the customer can order individual modules as repair kits.
“Right now that means drying agent cartridges and release valves, but we are going to be progressively expanding the range of modules in the future,” says Wagner.
At the trade fair in Frankfurt, Knorr-Bremse showcased a remanufactured EBS 2 two-channel module in ‘before and after’ condition. With products as complex as these, system diagnostics are crucial, and here Knorr-Bremse displayed a recent update of its established electronic diagnosis platform, NEO System Diagnostics.
Also in the spotlight at Automechanika was the company’s service offering for the new SM and SL generations of disc brakes. The underlying concept is largely based on the same approach as their predecessors.
But on account of the revised format of the brake pads, SM and SL pad sets can only be installed in these specific types of disc brakes. To this end, Knorr-Bremse has put together a maintenance set comprising the appropriate special-purpose tool, a revised set of instructions and some clear and simple practical tips.
