Kobelco sharpens focus on mining excavators and attachments

Exhibits its flagship SK850LC 80T excavator and latest demolition excavator SK350DLC for the first time at EXCON 2019.

With the Indian CE market finally opening up for higher tonnage and sophisticated machines for mining applications in recent times, Kobelco Construction Equipment India (KCEI) is stepping up its strategy. The company displayed a wide range of high-spec crawlers excavators at the expo, along with a continued focus on innovative and utilitarian attachments for the excavators.

A subsidiary of Japan-based Kobelco Construction Machinery (KCM), KCEI’s showcase included its flagship 80-ton class SK850LC excavator and the largest-selling 50-ton class SK520XDLC excavator, along with the new entrants – SK350DLC demolition excavator and SK30SR 3-ton class mini excavator. The company also demonstrated new Okada rock breaker and Miller range of quick couplers.

Speaking at the event, E. Moses, VP – Sales and Marketing, said: “Kobelco excavators are known for their latest Japanese technologies and high levels of productivity and reliability in the industry. Our USP factors that has helped us grow over the years include high fuel saving, higher output through faster operating cycles, long service life of key components, environment and operator-friendly products, and field support for maximum machine uptime.” “With the market opening up, we will continue to grow in the same direction”, he added.

The company has just completed its latest phase of local manufacturing expansion, pushing up its annual production capacity to 3,000 machines. “Although the market is a bit subdued at present, it is bound to come up, which may push for next phase of expansion later next year. There is also a constant move towards higher level of localisation barring key aggregates like engines, electronics, and hydraulics. The localisation of components now stands at 40 per cent”, noted Vikram Sharma, Advisor (India and South Asia), Kobelco.

Further, Sharma observed that Kobelco machines are class-leading in terms of technological features, with all its latest machines equipped with GPS and telematics systems that generate data on running and fuel consumption for the disposal of operators and service engineers. “We are very advanced in electronics, with a host of sensors being deployed in our products for load sensing, controller feed backs for efficient running, and timely notifications for preventive maintenance. Customers are increasingly appreciating these equipment”, he added.

The company handed keys of the latest products to its esteemed customers at the expo. One of the recipient and an early customer of Kobelco machines in India, Vijaay Sheth of Urmilla Enterprises – a rental company based in Chennai – said: “A highly approachable management and comprehensive customer support rules in favour of Kobelco brand. Being the first-ever customer of Kobelco in the country back in 2007, my association with the brand for more than a decade has been quite satisfactory. My rental clients also totally corroborate the fuel efficiency and productivity advantages of using Kobelco machines in place of other brands”.
