KPIT Technologies, a home-grown technology company, was recognized with the ‘Promising Transport Innovation Award’ at the International Transport Forum (ITF) 2016 Summit in Leipzig, Germany. It won the award for its technology ‘REVOLO’ that enables clean urban mobility.
The award ceremony took place at ITF 2016 in the presence of ministers from 57 ITF member-countries. The theme of the event was ‘Green and Inclusive Transport.’ The award was presented to Mr. Kishor Patil, KPIT Co-founder, MD & CEO, by Mr. KL Thapar, Founder and Chairman, Asian Institute of Transport Development, and José Viegas, ITF Secretary-General.
The Promising Transport Innovation Award recognizes innovations that have the potential to significantly improve the quality, performance, user experience, accessibility, sustainability or inter-modality of the transport. It is instituted by ITF, an inter-governmental organization which acts as a think tank for transport policy with 57 member-nations. ITF is an administratively integrated entity of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) where the governments of 34 countries with market economies work with each other, as well as with more than 70 non-member economies to promote economic growth, prosperity and sustainable development.
On receiving this award, Mr. Kishor Patil said: “We are honoured to receive this recognition from the International Transport Forum. It firmly establishes our commitment to create sustainable technologies that have a positive impact on our environment and are socially inclusive as well. Our smart electric system for buses is a pollution-free and affordable solution which can be deployed on a very large scale.”
REVOLO is a versatile system, designed to work across different bus formats. The key components of the system are lithium ion batteries, electric motors, a power transmission unit and smart electronic control units. The Smart Electric buses have multiple features like Intelligent Transport Systems, Mobile Phone App for journey planning and ticketing, Wifi Infotainment, etc., which provide a superior ride experience that can help encourage adoption of public transport. KPIT is currently working with multiple bus manufacturers / partners in India, South-East Asia, Africa and South America to bring this technology to market.
KPIT’s first electric bus with REVOLO was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2015. Two such buses are currently operating at the Indian Parliament for its members to experience green and intelligent technology.
