Engineering conglomerate Lakshmi Machine Works Limited (LMW) started its value-driven machine tool division in 1988 to produce the finest range of CNC machines. The journey of LMW was flagged off 1962 to provide Indian textile mills with the latest spinning technologies. Today, LMW is a leading textile machine manufacturer in India and one among the three in the world to produce the entire range of textile spinning machinery. LMW’s foundry makes precision castings for industries worldwide. The company has added an advanced technology centre to manufacture components for the aerospace industry.

The machine tool division has developed its own capability to design and manufacture world-class CNC turning and machining centres. The high-precision mother machines coupled with skilled people produce high-quality products. The company has made substantial investments for enhancing manufacturing facilities, which provides technological competence to address the global markets. A dedicated spindle assembly makes spindles of up to 24,000 rpm. It produces different spindles such as belt-driven, direct-driven and built-in motor spindle. These spindles undergo spindle run testing and spindle dynamic balancing. All the assembly lines are dust-free and temperature-controlled to ensure maximum accuracy.

LMW focuses on major demanding factors in the market: 1) accuracy and long-lasting repeatability, 2) reliability, 3) reduction in cycle time, 4) low cost per component, and 5) high productivity. LMW launched and displayed some of its latest machines in turning, milling and turn mill centres at IMTEX 2023 held at BIEC, Bengaluru from January 19-25, 2023. LMW has launched S Turn I, a state-of-the-art turning machine that has maximum turning diameter of 320 mm and maximum turning length of 400 mm. The machine comes with eight-station hydraulic turret, spindle speed of 4,500 rpm, spindle power of 5.5 | 7.5 kW. The machine provides interface with gantry automation. High-speed positioning keeps non-cut time to the minimum. The machine is suitable for aerospace, automobile, defence and general engineering.

Gigaturn I is an optimal large diameter turning centre with maximum turning diameter of 510 mm and maximum turning length of 640 mm. The machine comes with 12-station turret, rigid fixture for stable turning and customised EOS screen. It has wide chip disposal area for easy maintenance. The machine is suitable for automobile, pumps and valves and oil and gas. JD 1 is a precision machine. It has direct drive spindle BBT 30 with speed of up to 24,000 rpm. The machine has rigid structure with wider working area and is ergonomically designed for easy loading and unloading operations. The machine comes with faster tool change time of 1 second. It is designed for high-speed machining for materials such as aluminium and special aluminium alloys. The machine is suited for components for electronic segments such as mobile case, laptops and tablets.

The company has also launched two machines from its popular J series vertical machining centres. J6 R has rotary pallet changers which is a major requirement from many high-volume production customers. It has a table size of 850 x 500 mm and spindle speed of up to 10,000 rpm. It comes with 24 ATC tools. The machine is suitable for automobile, aerospace, defence, die and mould, pumps and valves and general engineering. J8, a heavy-duty vertical machining centre, has a table size of 1,200 x 600 mm, spindle speed of 6,000 rpm and BT 50 tooling for heavy-duty machining to meet the requirements of larger components. The machine is suitable for automobile, aerospace, agriculture equipment and earthmovers, and die and mould, pumps and valves and general engineering.
