Mahindra remains committed to transport fraternity

Third edition of Transport Excellence Awards held

It was indeed a Red Letter Day for the Indian transport industry when Mahindra Truck and Bus, in its bid to drive a positive change, Mahindra-Awards-pic-1ushered in its third edition of the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards at a special function held in New Delhi on January 9.

Jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the function was formally inaugurated by Mr. Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, along with Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director & President, Auto & Farm Equipment Sector, M&M, Mr. Rajan Wadhera, CEO, TPDS, M&M, Mr. Nalin Mehta, Managing Director and CEO, Mahindra Truck and Bus Ltd. (MTBL), and Dr. Bhaskar Das, Group CEO, ZEE Media.

Mahindra-Awards-pic-2The function commenced with a panel discussion on Road Safety presided over by the stalwarts of the transport industry, namely, Dr. Rohit Baluja, President, Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE), Mr. Anil Shukla, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Delhi, Mr. Rajeev Lochan, Director (Road Safety), Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Sanjay Bandopadhayaya, the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Mr. Dinesh Tyagi, Director International Center for Automotive Technology (ICAT), Mr. Rakesh Batra, Partner, Ernst & Young (EY), and Mr. Pirojshaw Sarkari, Chief Executive Officer, Mahindra Logistics Ltd. Topical issues such as improving the traffic conditions with sustainable transport were discussed in detail.

At the Awards presentation function, for the first time, a lady truck driver, Ms. Yogita Raghuvanshi, was felicitated with presentation of Mahindra-Awards-pic-3a truck Truxo 25 by MTBL. She received a standing ovation from the audience as she narrated how she daringly managed her way into the male-dominated bastion.

The most coveted was indeed the Super Outperformer Winner Award won by Mahendra Singh Rajput.

Started with much passion and zeal was yet another industry first, the new MTBL initiative, for drivers’ daughters, the Girl Child Scholarship, under the banner of Mahindra Saarth Abhiyaan. This pioneering launch was unveiled by Mr. Nalin Mehta who read out the message on behalf of Mr. Anand Mahindra.

Mahindra-Awards-pic-4Dr. Pawan Goenka announced the Mahindra MPower War Room, a sequel to MPower management development program for the second generation youth transporters, in a bid to provide the right tools and techniques for running their business successfully and profitably.

This was followed by the presentation of the Dhaba – Mechanic – Driver Awards and Mahindra-Awards-pic-5the Fleet Owner Awards. There were 16 winners from eight segments for the latter category.
