The course, which started on January 23 will conclude on February 5 with the first batch of 30 Youth Transport Entrepreneurs, including field visit, external workshops, etc. Mahindra had also organized special guest lectures by industry experts to provide better insight of the domain development and current trend for this program.

Last year, Mahindra had taken the first step in the direction of encouraging the youth to take on the path of excellence by instituting the Youth Transport Personality Award. And this year it has gone a step ahead to encourage youth transporters to take on their “Papa Ka Business”.

Speaking at the Awards ceremony last year, Mr. Anand Mahindra, Chairman, had exhorted the nextgen of transporters to “take forward their family business with their own vision”.

On the occasion, Mr. Nalin Mehta, CEO & Managing Director, Mahindra Navistar Automotives Ltd., said: “Mahindra has resolved to be the change agent in the Indian commercial vehicle industry. To bring about this kind of revolution we have to work at various levels. While excellent products, a strong network and service back-up are essential, it is also necessary to bring about a change through thought leadership which has led Mahindra to launch initiatives like the Mahindra Transport Excellence Awards and Outperformers’ League, the transport forum. In keeping with this philosophy, we have now taken this concrete step by developing a unique management development programme that will transform the way young transport minds view their business – MPOWER. At Mahindra, we call it a RISE initiative for Youth Transport Entrepreneurs, with the main objective of helping to professionalize the Indian trucking industry through management development initiatives for the next generation of entrepreneurs.”

MPOWER, developed specially by IIM-Ahmedabad through the process of co-creation, is a pioneering initiative and unique in several ways. The entire course content was developed ground-up through participation of young transporters who shared their concerns and spelled out their knowledge needs for running their existing business through their own vision for the future.

Mr. Nalin Mehta added: “This is a great opportunity for young transport entrepreneurs to take maximum advantage through this initiative of Mahindra. This is a tool that would help shape their vision for tomorrow’s challenges, so that they are empowered to take their business forward with state-of-the-art knowhow. This specially designed program will be conducted by IIM-Ahmedabad. IIMA has designed the course module for the key stakeholders in the Trucking Ecosystem preparing them for tomorrow. It’s a long-term sustainable initiative which is in line with Mahindra philosophy.”
