Makersan is involved in the design and manufacture of mechatronics solutions such as accelerator pedals with contactless sensor, throttle levers, pressure sensors, rotary position sensors, speed sensors and temperature sensors for the construction equipment (CE) and commercial vehicle (CV) industries. The company has its own Indian subsidiary, Makersan India Pvt. Ltd., and is making inroads into the Indian market with its differentiated product portfolio.
Having gained very good acceptance in the Indian bus and truck market, Makersan has turned its attention to the CE sector and is confident of making a mark in the space, especially considering the emission norms changes that are set to work in its favour.
Says Mr. Oktay Pehlivanoglu, Global Marketing Director, Makersan Makina Otomotiv: “The Indian CE industry’s impending move towards Bharat Stage (BS) IV emission norms will call for the use of ECUs and manipulators; this is our core domain and I believe Makersan will benefit from the transition. Also, having an Indian subsidiary is helping us a lot because it eliminates the import aspect, and we are able to supply on just-in-time basis from our warehouse in Pune.”
Globally the CE sector is the largest contributor to Makersan’s turnover, accounting for nearly 40 per cent of its business. The company is a regular exhibitor at bauma Munich and will be showcasing its latest products at this year’s show from April 8-14 at Hall A2, Booth 411.
Makersan is excited about its prospects in the Indian market and is raring to go with its array of interesting solutions. Mr. Vikram Kalaskar, Director, Makersan India Pvt. Ltd., shares: “In the CE segment, we are closely interacting with the engineering teams of some of the top OEMs, to get involved in their new projects from scratch and support them with ideas and solutions that would deliver a lot of value. We have started supplying joysticks and accelerator pedals to some customers and are in discussion regarding HMIs and keypads. We are just warming up in this segment and see a very bright future for Makersan.”
Entering a competitive market like India, Makersan has clearly identified its focus areas – bring in new high-quality products, offer more competitive prices, be ready for customization and add features that its competitors do not have.
“Customers are asking for customized solutions, and we being a company that develops and manufactures products with our own design and tooling, we are more flexible to support such requests. For instance, we have a two-way accelerator pedal, primarily used in excavators, which we already sell in markets like Europe and are now offering for customers in India”, explains Mr. Pehlivanoglu.
