Rs. 500-crore turnover in two years targeted
Though started 12 years ago as an ordinary truck operator in the name of Maharashtra Road Carriers, the MRC Group has today grown into one of the largest and most reputed logistics service providers in the country. Adoption of best practices in the industry and value addition to the services rendered were among factors that drove the company success. Further the MRC promoter-Chairman, Mr. Rajpal Arya, has taken the group to greater heights with his special administrative talent.
These and other details of the company growth and expansion were given in an interaction to MOTORINDIA at Pune by Mr. V.R. Fadnavis, Executive Director, MRC Group.
During the interaction, the MOTORINDIA Editor could very well observe that though there are several road transport companies situated in and around Pune’s well-known transport nagar, Nigidi, the MRC Group has made its special mark by setting up a world-class corporate office with full-fledged administrative and training facilities. With the current turnover of Rs. 250 crores, the group, with 90 branches across India, has a workforce of 1,000 employees. With a fleet strength of 200+ trucks, trailers, etc., the company has over one million sq. ft. of warehouses spread all over India.
In fact, the MRC Group was among the first to get accredited to ISO-9001 way back 15 years ago. This is considered the backbone of its growth all along. Having invested heavily on Ramco’s ERP suite and implemented the same across all the centres, the company has an ambitious plan of raising its turnover to a level of Rs. 500 crores in the next two years.
According to Mr. Fadnavis, who has brought his rich experience to the MRC Group, from transportation to supply chain management, the MRC Group provides excellent services covering areas like in-bound and out-bound logistics, implant working in all verticals, etc. The latest technological advancements incorporated in its GPRS installations support various clients, including Tata Motors, Reliance Digital, etc., in their operation. It also offers 3rd party purchase (3PP) solutions that enable clients to manage their production requirements on a JIT basis.
In Pune alone MRC serves as many as 300 customers, including industry leaders like Tata Motors, Cummins, Thermax, Atlas Copco, KSB and Kirloskar Oil Engines. In the field of contract manufacturing, it offers extensive support to corporates like L&T and KSB through their efficient workforce. It is indeed a very strong player on the Pune-Nashik-Satara-Sangli route in Maharashtra.
Referring to the general driver shortage problem, Mr. Fadnavis said his company maintained a very close rapport with the entire staff, including drivers, by providing adequate training, incentives, etc., with a view mainly to retaining them. MRC is currently in negotiation with Yashwantrao Chavan Open University with an idea of introducing a diploma course for the young employees for their skill development. Another area of company focus is global logistics services, he added.
