Nemak Aluminium Castings India (P) Limited, a global leader in light weighting solutions for the automobile industry, is focusing on the design and production of aluminium components and body structure applications for electric vehicles. In a chat with Rajesh Rajgor, the company’s Sales Group Manager Mukesh Nigam traces their offerings for the EV segment in India
Communication for EVs
Nemak Aluminium Castings India is a global player in aluminium die casting, particularly in power-train. As the entire automotive industry makes a gradual shift to electric mobility, Nemak Aluminium Castings India too is shifting its focus and attention. In the last 10 years we have slightly moved from manufacturing our parent products like engine blocks and cylinder heads to making e-mobility parts like battery trays and motor housings, especially in the US and European markets. The EV era would want the vehicle manufacturers to place the battery safely on trays.
We will provide those compact trays for safety and cooling. Our product line presently includes a diverse range of lightweight vehicle components, a-pillars, longitudinal members, shock towers, cradles, sub-frames, e-brackets, PHEV and BEV battery housings, e-motor housings, transmission housings, engine blocks and cylinder heads. Today, we are a market leader in e-mobility, body-in-white and chassis components, and have introduced a line of completely electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle products.
Manufacturing Strength
We have a market capitalisation of USD 3.8 billion and have expanded our technological capabilities beyond pure castings to completely assembled designs. We created and brought to series production the largest single-piece cast PHEV battery housings as a specialist in large-scale casting. We have leveraged our experience to entirely develop a new component that integrates the e-drive unit into the vehicle body, resulting in significant weight savings over the initial plan. Our dedication to sustainable mobility is demonstrated by the use of secondary (recycled) alloys in 70% of our products.
Material-related CO2 emissions can be reduced by 80% using a newly designed HPDC alloy for structural components. We have the resources, know-how and financial capability to expand and invest in technology in emerging markets such as India. We are at a turning point in the automobile industry and we are delighted to show how our innovations can help our customers achieve greater performance, efficiency and sustainability. We already have a facility in Chennai, but we will build a new one for electric vehicles. We aspire to be known as a one-stop shop for everything related to electric vehicle battery trays and e-motor housings, from idea through serial production.
