The newest technology in lighting for commercial vehicles is the daytime running light (DRL) function and full LED head lamps. DRL function, is already mandatory in Europe, India is catching up, and soon all new models of vehicles will be equipped with this.
Neolite ZKW Lightings has products for all segments of the automotive industry, but its main focus is on the OEMs across the world. Neolite ZKW is number supplier in commercial vehicle segment and priority is to be premier passenger vehicle supplier. Mr. Girish Bansal, Sr. GM – International Marketing, said: “The technology in lighting is changing rapidly”.
Neolite has recently signed a JV with a Spanish company to supply it the design technology. But cost, as it has always been, is the usual deterrent. He shared: “The cost of tool making is increasing, and our customers whether global or Indian, are becoming more demanding, and we are obviously upgrading the technology accordingly.”
Mr. Bansal further said: “We are supplying to the North American manufacturers the OES or original equipment spares. Our Indian customers export to markets in North America, Mexico, and Europe and our lamps are installed directly on the vehicles. In many of these markets, it is our lamps that are used invariably as the replacement lamps because we develop tooling specifically for each manufacturer.”
Neolite is growing at 12-15 per cent each year. The company which boasts of facilities like testing, validation and tooling in-house, has four plants in India – two in Bahadurgarh and one each in Gurugram and Noida. Their fifth one will be opened in Pune in 2020.
