Mr. Anant Geete, Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, has assured the automobile industry of full Government backing in its onward march, and has expressed his confidence that the next five years will be most promising for the industry.
Addressing the 54th SIAM Annual Convention in New Delhi on September 12, Mr. Geete reiterated the Prime Minister’s unconditional support to the industry in every positive manner and his promise for making India a manufacturing hub.
With the enormous potential of the market and well-channelised efforts of the Government, the auto industry would not only be able to generate huge employment for the country but would itself experience a golden period in the next five years. The success of the Heavy Industries Ministry would depend mainly on the advances made by the automobile industry, he added.
Inaugurating the convention, Mr. Vikram Kirloskar, SIAM President, and Vice Chairman, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, thanked the Government for its unending support to the industry which has helped it “not only survive but thrive and flourish”. He also elaborately dealt with fiscal policies, emissions, safety roadmap, competition laws, vehicle technologies, fuels and trade policies, “the five key areas that will have to be addressed to ensure a robust and healthy growth of the automotive industry in future”.
Mr. Ramesh Suri, President-designate, ACMA, and Chairman, Global Autotech, was among those who addressed the session.
Proposing a vote of thanks, Mr. Vinod K. Dasari, SIAM Vice President, and Managing Director, Ashok Leyland, expressed his hope that the industry would experience rapid growth in the coming years with the joint efforts of all the stakeholders in the industry.
