Presiding over the NIQR Award presentation function held in Chennai on September 12, Mr. A. Krishnamoorthy, Chairman, Amalagamations Group, conferred the NIQR – INDIA PISTONS Award for Outstanding Life Time Achievement – 2014 on Prof. Yasutoshi Washio, President of the Japanese Society for Quality Control, who is a Deming Application Prize winner and globally renowned expert in Total Quality Management (TQM).
In his acceptance speech, Prof. Washio reminded the audience of his prediction about Indian industries’ competence and Indian manufacturing quality overtaking that of Japan by 2013. The interest shown by global manufacturing companies in sourcing parts and components from India is on the rise, as a full recognition of the Indian industries’ commitment to Quality. Today the American, European and Japanese firms are seeking outsourcing deals with Indian manufacturing firms.
Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Mr. R. Sivanesan, Special Director – Central Quality, Ashok Leyland Ltd., and NIQR National President, stressed the significance of the occasion to honour Prof. Washio, and Dr. R. Mahadevan, Past National President of NIQR, briefly spoke about the Award instituted by NIQR and listed out the names of the past Award winners.
The citation of the NIQR – PISTONS Award was read out by Mr. G.R. Janarthanan, Executive Director, India Pistons Ltd., and past NIQR National President.
More than 150 members, including the past National Presidents of NIQR, CEOs and senior officials from industries in and around Chennai attended the function.
The function also witnessed presentation of the NIQR – TS KRISHNA Student Award for Best Essay to Mr. A. Joseph Rajan, a final year student of Meenakshi Sundararajan Engineering College.
Mr. G. Rangarajan, NIQR National Secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
Sivanesan of AL elected NIQR National President Mr. R. Sivanesan, Special Director – Central Quality, Ashok Leyland Ltd., has been elected the National President of the Executive Council Committee of NIQR for 2014-16, and Dr. V. Swaminathan, Director, VSAM Associates, and Mr. P.K. Aggarwal, Vice President, TAFE Ltd., as National Vice Presidents. Mr. G. Rangarajan, Chief Executive Officer, CEO Consultants, Mr. R. Mohanakrishnan, Chief Executive, Guru Krupa Consultancy Services, and Mr. K. Manikandan, Genaral Manager – Supplier, Ashok Leyland Ltd., have been chosen National Secretary, National Treasurer and National Joint Secretary respectively. |
