Mr. R. Thyagarajan, Founder Chairman, Shriram Group of Companies, was among the recipients of the Padma Bhushan Award presented by the President of India on Republic Day this year.
A Masters in Mathematics, Masters in Mathematical Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute, Associate of Chartered Insurance Institute (ACCI), London, and visiting faculty of the Asian Institute of Insurance, Philippines, on Consequential Loss Insurance, Mr. Thyagarajan promoted the Shriram Group in 1974. Today, the group has over 45,000 employees operating through 2,400 branches and manages funds of over Rs. 60,000 crores in the business of financial services, including the life insurance and general insurance.
By inculcating the philosophy of “putting people first”, Mr. Thyagarajan has transformed the Shriram Group into India’s premier networked financial services supermarket chain.
