Parveen Travels of the AB Group has launched its latest initiative – the Go Green Bus – as its contribution towards the Green Kalam project started by the former Indian President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The Go Green Bus was flagged off by Dr. V. Ponraj, Scientific Advisor to Dr. Kalam, in Chennai on December 8.
Parveen is recognized for its tourist services in south India. It is also known for its unique initiatives to promote various causes. The ‘Incredible India’ initiative which has gained a lot of popularity in the South was introduced by the company towards promoting Indian culture through its fleet of tourist vehicles.
The Go Green Bus has been brought out with a view to contributing to the betterment of environment and also spread awareness about the growing levels of pollution in the country. Initially, two such vehicles will ply on the Chennai-Coimbatore route during nights, with the company exploring the possibility of running day buses, especially during weekends. From the ticket fee of Rs. 650 per seat, a nominal amount would go to the spread of greenery through various schools and NGOs in the country.
The Go Green Bus would also use biodegradable instead of regular materials like plastics, with a view to spreading awareness about environmental pollution.
At the flagging off event, Dr. Ponraj said: “I am extremely happy to inaugurate the Parveen Go Green Bus initiative. The Green Kalam project has a vision of planting a billion trees, and this initiative by Parveen is an encouraging contribution towards the cause. We are confident that we will have more greenery in India if more fleet operators take up such contributing steps.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Afzal, Chairman & Managing Director, AB Group, said: “We are happy to bring out the Go Green Bus initiative and would like to thank Dr. Ponraj for gracing the occasion. Parveen has always focused on contributing towards a greener environment, and this is another step in that direction. With the mounting environmental pollution, it is essential for everyone in the society to make a contribution towards reducing it.”
